Which areas do Henan's prohibited breeding zones refer to? How does Henan define prohibited breeding zones? Below we take Xinzheng City, Henan, as an example to look at this issue. The city adjusted the boundaries of its prohibited livestock and poultry breeding zones, and all types of livestock and poultry will be prohibited from being raised within the prohibited breeding zones.

According to reports, the prohibited breeding zones designated this time in Xinzheng City, Henan, include the Wangjinglou Reservoir, the Laoguanzhai Reservoir and the waters of the Huangshui River section between the reservoirs and the 300-meter land area along the banks, the land area west of the Zhengxin Expressway corridor, as well as the groundwater drinking water source protection area of the Xinzheng City Urban Water Management Office and the area east of National Highway 107 within 1,000 meters outside the first-level protection zone; within the first-level water source protection zone on both sides of the Xinzheng section of the main canal of the first phase of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project; scenic and historic areas, tourist attractions, cultural relic and historical site protection areas, and nature reserves; and urban and town residential areas, cultural, educational and scientific research areas, medical and other densely populated areas.

The restricted breeding zones include the area within the second-level water source protection zone on both sides of the Xinzheng section of the main canal of the first phase of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project; the area outside the built-up urban area but within the planned area; and the area within 500 meters on both sides of major transportation trunk lines such as national highways, provincial highways, railways and expressways.

After the adjustments are fully implemented, all large-scale livestock and poultry breeding will be prohibited within the prohibited breeding zones, and the construction of new or expanded breeding farms of any kind will be strictly prohibited. Existing breeding farms within the prohibited breeding zones will be gradually shut down or relocated in accordance with the law; within the restricted breeding zones, the total amount of livestock and poultry raising will be gradually controlled and reduced, and no new or expanded livestock and poultry breeding farms may be built. Existing livestock and poultry breeding farms within the restricted breeding zones must, in accordance with relevant environmental protection regulations, control their breeding scale, strictly implement pollution prevention and control measures, and achieve compliance with pollutant discharge standards.
