In rural areas, whether it is crop planting or farming, subsidies are the thing farmers care about most. It is almost imaginable that farmers, in order to meet the subsidy standards, keep expanding or renovating their operations. The farming subsidies for the second half of 2017 have been announced. What exactly are they?

1. Livestock and poultry improved-breed subsidies

The state provides subsidies to farms (communities, households) raising reproductive sows, dairy cows and beef cattle that use improved-breed semen for artificial insemination. The subsidy standards are:

Pigs: based on each reproductive sow using 4 doses of semen per year, with a subsidy of 10 yuan per dose, totalling 40 yuan;

Dairy cows: a subsidy of 70 yuan per reproductive cow. For Holstein cattle, each reproductive cow uses 2 doses of frozen semen per year, with a subsidy of 35 yuan per dose;

Beef cattle: dual-purpose Simmental cattle use 2 doses of frozen semen per head per year, with a subsidy of 10 yuan per dose; reproductive beef cows use 2 doses of frozen semen per head per year, with a subsidy of 5 yuan per dose;

Sheep: a one-time subsidy of 800 yuan per breeding ram.

2. Standardized large-scale livestock and poultry farms (communities)

1. Free vaccines for major animal diseases

The state implements a compulsory immunization policy for animal diseases such as highly pathogenic avian influenza, foot-and-mouth disease, highly pathogenic porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome, classical swine fever and peste des petits ruminants. For the compulsory immunization vaccines for the above major animal diseases, farms (households) do not need to pay for the vaccines.

2. Compensation for losses from the culling of animals with major animal diseases

The state implements compulsory culling of animals infected with highly pathogenic avian influenza, foot-and-mouth disease, highly pathogenic porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome and peste des petits ruminants, as well as animals in the same group, and of dairy cows positive for brucellosis and tuberculosis. Compensation is given for losses caused to farmers by the culling of livestock and poultry due to the above diseases.
