In recent years, the meat duck industry has not been peaceful. As large-scale farming continues to expand, duck diseases have also been upgrading, changing and renewing. From the initial duck spleen necrosis to “jumping disease” and then to the recent duck big tongue disease, many farmers have been left with headaches. So what medicine should be used for duck big tongue disease? Does a vaccine need to be given? When should it be given?

Symptoms and characteristics of duck big tongue disease

1. Early onset: clinical symptoms appear in ducklings as early as 5 days of age;

2. High incidence rate: in areas with severe disease, the incidence rate can reach more than 30%;

3. Uneven size within the duck flock: the body weight of sick ducks is reduced by 20-30% compared with normal;

4. Short beak and long tongue, with the tongue paralyzed and inflexible;

5. Long bones of the legs and wings break easily, especially during slaughter, when broken leg bones and wing bones result in defective products.

Why does big tongue disease occur?

1. Caused by allergy to certain drugs: related to short-term heavy use of fluorine-containing antibiotics (norfloxacin, florfenicol), mequindox, quinolone drugs, etc.

2. Excessive fluoride in drinking water or feed; the main affected areas are saline-alkali areas and hilly areas.

3. Metabolic diseases caused by deficiencies in trace elements such as manganese or by high fluoride, etc.

4. Farming and management factors such as high temperature and humidity and poor ventilation can also trigger the occurrence of this disease.

5. Excessive light intensity causes abnormal growth and development of the beak.

What medicine is best for big tongue disease? When should the vaccine be given?

Duck big tongue disease is a comprehensive clinical disease mainly caused by duck parvovirus. It attacks the digestive system, destroys the intestinal mucosa and intestinal flora, and then leads to secondary inability to absorb nutrients normally. The incidence rate is very high and treatment is relatively difficult.

Commonly used medication: Da Ji Zhua + Gan Dan Li Kang San. It takes effect in two days and cures in four days. At the same time, using “compound VB + Wei Ke Jian” gives better results. (1 gram of compound VB mixed with 10-15 jin of water), use continuously for 10 days from the start, which can effectively prevent duck big tongue disease and Ankara virus.

Vaccination time: The duck big tongue disease vaccine should be injected when the ducks are 5 days old.

How to prevent and control it?

At present, without a vaccine, we can only use sensitive antiviral drugs for prevention before the disease occurs (especially recommended is the traditional Chinese medicine Huanglian Jiedu San, which has a good effect against parvovirus). Start administering medication for prevention on the third day. For duck flocks that have already become ill, provide symptomatic treatment to improve the immunity of the flock and supplement vitamins and calcium. For duck houses where this disease has occurred, the empty period should be extended, and effective disinfectants should be used for all-round disinfection.
