Is breeding and selling black-spotted frogs profitable, and what permits are required?
The black-spotted frog (Pelophylax nigromaculatus) is an emerging frog variety, an amphibian belonging to the order Anura, family Ranidae, genus Pelophylax. Because of its delicious meat, diverse breeding environments, and simple management, it has been favored by farmers in southern China in recent years. So is breeding and selling black-spotted frogs profitable? What permits are required?
How to breed them? Is it profitable?
Generally, farmers use the vacant land in front of and behind their houses, or standardized white netting ponds, or idle rice paddies and flooded fields for breeding, and the returns are quite considerable. It is understood that they can be marketed after about five or six months of breeding, when each black-spotted frog weighs about 2 liang, and one jin of black-spotted frogs sells for about 25 yuan. After deducting costs, you can earn more than 10 yuan per jin.
What permits are required?
The black-spotted frog is a “three haves” animal (terrestrial wildlife that is beneficial, or has important economic or scientific research value, and is protected by the state). According to Articles 1, 10, 28, and 30 of the Wildlife Protection Law of the People's Republic of China (2016), for wildlife with mature and stable artificial breeding technology, sale and utilization shall be carried out with special labels to ensure traceability. It is prohibited to operate food made from non-key state-protected wildlife and their products without proof of legal source.
Therefore, carrying out the breeding and sale of black-spotted frogs requires going to the local county-level forestry department to apply for:
1. Wildlife Domestication and Breeding Permit;
2. Wildlife Operation and Utilization Permit.
Finally, a reminder: at present, frog breeding of the black-spotted frog type is an emerging industry. Farmers who want to enter this industry need to have a certain technical and financial foundation, and it is best to have certain market sales channels, so as to reduce circulation links and improve risk resistance.
