Kalanchoe: Perennial Herb, When Is the Blooming Season and How Many Times a Year Does It Bloom, Fertilizing for Vigorous Growth
Kalanchoe, generally referring to Kalanchoe blossfeldiana, is a perennial succulent herb with rich flower colors, and it is a beloved indoor potted flower. So, when is the blooming season of kalanchoe? How many times does it bloom a year? What fertilizer makes it grow vigorously and bloom abundantly?
1. When is the blooming season of kalanchoe?
The blooming season of kalanchoe is very long. Basically, kalanchoe blooms from December each year —— to April of the following year, lasting as long as 4 or 5 months, and some kalanchoes can bloom from January to May. In fact, the specific blooming season of kalanchoe is not very fixed. Under the influence of climate, region and variety, the blooming season of kalanchoe is certainly different, and the specific timing should be based on actual conditions.
2. How many times does kalanchoe bloom a year?
The number of times kalanchoe blooms is not limited; some bloom once or twice, and well-cared-for plants can bloom all year round. Kalanchoe likes a warm, slightly humid and sunny environment and is not cold-tolerant. The suitable growth temperature is 15-25°C. When summer temperatures exceed 30°C, growth is inhibited, and in winter the indoor temperature needs to be 12-15°C. Below 5°C, the leaves turn red and the blooming season is delayed. If the room temperature exceeds 24°C during the winter-spring blooming period, blooming will be inhibited; if the temperature is around 15°C, kalanchoe will bloom continuously.
3. What fertilizer makes kalanchoe grow vigorously and bloom abundantly?
When growing kalanchoe, sufficient fertilizer and water are certainly the foundation for lush flowers and leaves, but many flower lovers, on the one hand to save trouble and on the other hand overestimating the tolerance of kalanchoe, often apply a large amount of concentrated fertilizer at one time, and the result is counterproductive. Kalanchoe either develops a large number of yellow leaves or looks listless because the soil solution concentration is too high. Kalanchoe is a plant with moderate fertilizer needs, and applying thin fertilizer frequently is the real rule. Topdressing should mainly be done during the bud stage and blooming stage, and bone meal and potassium dihydrogen phosphate can be diluted into liquid fertilizer. Bone meal (80 g/bag) and potassium dihydrogen phosphate (30 g/bag) bought from the flower market are generally each used at about one quarter or one fifth of the amount, diluted respectively into a 1.25L beverage bottle to make liquid fertilizer. Spraying potassium dihydrogen phosphate on the front and back of the leaves, combined with watering with bone meal and potassium dihydrogen phosphate, will achieve the effect of buds all over the branches.
