Lovebirds: current market price per pair, lifespan, and how to raise them so they grow fast
The lovebird is a climbing bird belonging to the parrot family. Also known as the lovebird, waxbill parrot, and love bird. It is native to Africa and is now kept all over the world. So, how much does a pair of lovebirds cost on the market now? How long is its lifespan? How do you raise them so they grow fast?
1. How much does a pair of lovebirds cost on the market now?
Lovebird prices are very affordable. The common brown-headed lovebird (Fischer's lovebird) costs about 66 yuan per pair, the yellow peach-faced lovebird costs 86 yuan per pair for young birds and 126 yuan per pair for adults, the green black-headed and blue black-headed ones cost about 156 yuan per pair, the green peach-faced ones cost about 210 yuan per pair, while violet (ink blue) lovebirds, rainbow lovebirds, golden silk-headed lovebirds, white red-eyed lovebirds and purple-red lovebirds are more expensive, generally rare, and have no fixed price.
2. How long is its lifespan?
The lifespan of a lovebird is generally 12-15 years, and with good care one occasionally lives as long as 20 years. In fact, lovebirds cannot talk. The ones that generally can mimic speech (not only human speech, but also cat meows and so on) include the African grey parrot, macaw, cockatoo, crested myna, and hill myna. Lovebirds are a small parrot species and cannot mimic speech, but lovebirds can imitate the calls of other birds and animals, as well as sounds they find interesting.
3. How do you raise them so they grow fast?
1. Lovebirds mostly eat hulled millet and like hulled grains, but feeding only millet will leave the parrot undernourished, so a mix of various grains must be fed, such as rice, hemp seed, barnyard grass seed, sunflower seeds, red millet, black millet, yellow millet, safflower seed, sorghum, and so on. Note that sunflower seeds should not be fed too much; feeding 10-20 raw sunflower seeds per day is best.
2. Besides grains, lovebirds should also eat some clean fruit and vegetables. Fruit should be cut into small pieces before feeding. Also note that the parrot needs calcium supplements; you can buy some cuttlebone, or crush eggshells and mix them into the food. But pay attention to the amount of food; do not let the parrot become too fat, otherwise it will be difficult to breed.
3. Pay attention to cage hygiene and clean the parrot's droppings on time. You can spread some wood shavings or fine sand at the bottom of the cage to prevent bacterial and viral infections and reduce parasites. At the same time, pay attention to the cage's location; choose a quiet place free of disturbance, with no environmental pollution, and with good air circulation and fresh air. Indoors is not suitable for keeping parrots. Because parrots like to bite the cage, you should also prepare a chew stick for the parrot, ordinary wood will do, to prevent the parrot's hooked beak from growing longer and longer and it starting to fight.
4. Young birds reach sexual maturity at about 6 months and can then breed, so you should prepare a wooden box and a breeding box for the parrot. However, lovebirds will not breed in the hot summer; they can breed in the other seasons. Generally, the female lays 6-8 eggs per clutch, and the incubation period is about 19 days.
5. Lovebirds also need drinking water, but note that the water must be changed every day. If conditions allow, you can feed a little nutritional sand; nutritional sand contains calcium, iron and many trace elements and nutrients, which help strengthen bone solidity, make the feathers brightly colored, and supplement calcium.
