For the vast number of pig farmers, one of the things they worry about most when the weather and seasons change is pig diarrhea. So what causes diarrhea in pigs? What injection and what medicine works fastest? How to prevent and treat it?

What causes diarrhea in pigs?

1. Environmental changes and environmental stress: for example, when the temperature difference inside the barn exceeds 10°C, the diarrhea rate will increase by 25-30. Excessive humidity will also increase the frequency of diarrhea.

2. Improper feeding methods: for example, excessive feed restriction or excessive feeding can both cause starvation diarrhea and overeating diarrhea.

3. Incomplete digestive function: due to insufficient gastric acid in the stomach of piglets, the pH value rises, pepsin formation decreases, and the digestibility of protein in feed is reduced. Incompletely digested feed and the rise in gastrointestinal pH value both provide favorable conditions for the reproduction of enteropathogenic Escherichia coli and harmful pathogenic microorganisms in the intestine, while the growth of lactic acid bacteria is inhibited, resulting in indigestion and diarrhea.

4. Decreased immunity: due to the decline in maternal antibody levels, while the piglet's own immune system is not yet fully developed, combined with a series of stress reactions such as environmental and feed changes, the originally unsound immune system is further weakened. In this way, the piglet's resistance to disease is very fragile, and pathogenic Escherichia coli and other harmful microorganisms can easily invade, leading to the occurrence of diarrhea in piglets.

5. Viral diarrhea: mainly infectious gastroenteritis, epidemic diarrhea and rotavirus infection. It is characterized by vomiting, watery diarrhea and dehydration. The feces are foul-smelling and mixed with bubbles, curds or undigested feed. The morbidity and mortality of piglets within 10 days of age are relatively high. Dead piglets show obvious dehydration. Necropsy shows mesenteric congestion, swollen lymph nodes, mild congestion of the gastric fundus mucosa, and the intestines filled with white or yellow-green liquid.

6. Parasitic diarrhea: diarrhea caused by coccidia and roundworms is relatively common. It occurs in pigs over 20 days of age, generally has a chronic course, and is usually accompanied by symptoms such as poor appetite, coughing, difficulty breathing and anemia. In some cases, constipation and diarrhea alternate, or body temperature rises. Sick pigs have poor development, die of exhaustion or become “stunted pigs.” Make a preliminary diagnosis. If parasites are suspected, collect feces for pathogen culture or egg examination.

What injection and what medicine works fastest for pig diarrhea?

1. When pigs have diarrhea, the first thing is to ensure the body does not become dehydrated, and do not rush to use medication to stop the diarrhea. Diarrhea itself is a defensive physiological function of the body. Only through diarrhea can toxic substances in the body be excreted, preventing death caused by endotoxin poisoning. Fluid replacement and drinking water should be given first, then the cause should be identified and treated according to the symptoms.

2. When pigs have watery diarrhea, it may be a mixed infection of viruses and bacteria. Feed should be reduced or stopped to ensure the body does not become dehydrated. Use Changyijian by intramuscular injection, with a course of treatment of 2-3 days. For severe cases, first inject one dose of atropine, then inject Changyijian, and orally administer tannalbin + gentamicin.

3. If pigs have watery diarrhea accompanied by fever symptoms, it may be accompanied by viral diseases such as invisible swine fever, circovirus and pseudorabies. As long as the body temperature does not exceed 40.5°C, there is no need to rush to reduce fever. When using medication, some heat-clearing and detoxifying drugs should be added together with antiviral drugs. Changyijian + cephalosporin can be used by intramuscular injection.

4. When treating diarrhea in pigs, it is essential to ensure normal temperature and humidity inside the barn. Adding the mold remover Kemei and Heshengtai to the feed is more helpful for recovery from the disease.

How to prevent and treat pig diarrhea?

1. Teach feeding in time. Promote the development of the piglet's gastrointestinal tract, relieve itching of the piglet's gums, and reduce the stress of eating feed after weaning.

2. Do a good job in environmental hygiene, reduce stress reactions, and create an environment conducive to piglet growth. Mainly do a good job in cold protection and warmth, cleaning and hygiene, and disinfection to prevent bacterial infection. Before weaned piglets enter the nursery barn, thoroughly clean, wash and disinfect the inside and outside of the nursery barn to kill bacteria.

3. Within 5-6 days after weaning, control the piglet's feed intake. It is advisable to feed them 70%-80% full, with small and frequent meals (feed 6-8 times per day and night), and gradually transition to free feeding. Do not over-restrict feeding, and do not overfeed. The general principle for the amount of feed given is to let the piglets eat as much as possible on the premise that nutritional diarrhea does not occur.

4. Add to feed: Fangyu No. 1 + citric acid

The weaning transition stage is directly related to the piglets' later health status, daily growth and feed-to-meat ratio. Fangyu No. 1 strongly resists stress, restores immunity and promotes the immune system.
