What should you feed them to make them grow fast? At what size do they lay eggs? How do you keep them?According to Liu, a large-scale turtle farmer, a turtle must be at least 20cm long to reach sexual maturity and be able to lay eggs. This also varies from individual to individual; some turtles eat a lot and grow big, while others eat little yet can still lay eggs once they reach the right age. As for a turtle's age, that is a deep subject that ordinary people cannot easily determine, and you should not casually believe what turtle sellers say, as none of it is accurate. Moreover, a turtle can lay eggs on its own, just like a hen, laying eggs regularly; but eggs fertilized by a male turtle can hatch into baby turtles, while eggs not fertilized by a male turtle can only be eaten and cannot hatch into baby turtles.

How do you tell male and female turtles bought on the market apart?

1. Female turtle: the carapace is shorter and wider, the plastron is flat with no depression in the center, the tail is thin and short with a thin base, the cloacal opening is closer to the rear edge of the plastron, and the notch formed by the two anal scutes of the plastron is shallower with a larger notch angle.

2. Male turtle: the carapace is longer and narrower, the center of the plastron is slightly sunken inward, the tail is thick and long with a thick base, the cloacal opening is farther from the rear edge of the plastron, and the notch formed by the two anal scutes of the plastron is deeper with a smaller notch angle.

For adult turtles of the same age in most species, the male is thinner and smaller, while the female is rounder, thicker and larger.

3. In addition, mature individuals can also be identified by the following method:

Turn the turtle so its plastron faces up. Use the thumb, index finger and middle finger of your left hand to press its forelimbs and head so they retract into the shell, and with your right hand straighten the turtle's tail. If a black penis protrudes from the cloacal opening, it is male; if bubbles or thin mucus are discharged from the cloacal opening, it is female.

What should you feed turtles to make them grow fast?

1. You need to know clearly what breed the turtle is. According to differences in their living environment, they can be divided into five types: terrestrial turtles, aquatic turtles, semi-aquatic turtles, marine turtles and bottom-dwelling turtles. What they eat is different.

2. Aquatic turtles are generally omnivorous. Most semi-aquatic turtles are carnivorous. Most terrestrial turtles are herbivorous. Ordinary farmed turtles are omnivorous animals, feeding on animal matter such as insects, worms, small fish, shrimp, snails and mussels, and plant matter such as tender leaves, duckweed, melon rind, wheat grains, rice grains and weed seeds.

3. To make turtles grow fast, you still need to feed them a varied diet regularly. Pair animal foods such as small fish and small shrimp with some plant foods such as tender vegetable leaves, and so on, so that the nutrition is comprehensive and rich, and only then can the turtles grow faster.

How do you keep turtles?

1. Turtles are amphibians that live both in water and on land. If they are kept in a pure water pool with no connection to land, a platform that emerges above the water, such as stones or bricks, must be placed in the pool for the turtles to bask and rest on. Turtles like to hide in holes, so bricks can be used to build a turtle den to make the turtles feel safer.

2. Turtles mostly eat in the water, and sometimes also eat on shore. You can put the food directly into the water, or place it in the shallow water where water and land meet or on a slope near the water. When feeding shrimp, feed them with the shell on, as this supplements calcium, but the sharp spines on the shrimp's head must be cut off.

3. Turtles like eating meaty and fishy foods. Small turtles are mainly fed meat, and when they are bigger they can eat some vegetarian food. Generally you can feed them small fish, small shrimp, earthworms, loaches, animal organs, snails, crickets, a small amount of red meat, bananas, melon rind, and so on.

4. Turtles need to bask in the sun, but they cannot be exposed directly to it in hot weather. It is best to use a semi-shaded environment. The maximum temperature of the water environment for keeping turtles should not exceed 37 degrees. In summer, pay attention to shading the pool, generally by using large-leafed plants for shade.

5. Do not feed them when the temperature is below 20 degrees, otherwise it easily causes indigestion and other gastrointestinal diseases. The most suitable temperature for turtles is 25~30 degrees, at which they grow the fastest.

6. The higher the temperature, the larger the food intake, but when the temperature is too high the food intake instead declines; the lower the temperature, the smaller the food intake. The temperature at which turtles gain meat the fastest is 28~30 degrees.
