The sunfish is a relatively common small fish in freshwater, notable because its appearance resembles tilapia, and it also has high nutritional value, so some people eat it too. So what does the sunfish eat to grow? How much does it generally cost per jin? What nutritional value does it have?

What does it eat to grow?

Its main food is zooplankton and aquatic insects, and it also eats aquatic plants, small miscellaneous fish and small mollusks. Under artificial farming conditions, animal-based feed such as iced fresh fish or artificial compound feed can be given to replace natural bait; a feed protein content of 32% to 36% is sufficient, and it is relatively easy to farm.

Feed combinations:

1. Sunfish can be fed plant-based feed such as soybeans, soybean cake, soybean dregs, peanut cake, rapeseed cake, rice bran, etc.;

2. Green feed is mainly tender leaves of various terrestrial plants that are low in cellulose, and aquatic duckweed;

3. Animal-based feed includes fish meal, silkworm pupae, blood meal, the meat of various aquatic snail and clam species, small fish, small shrimp, offal from cattle and other animals, various aquatic and terrestrial earthworms, insect larvae, etc.;

4. Artificial compound feed is usually made by mixing fish meal, rapeseed cake, cottonseed cake powder, peanut cake powder, wheat bran, minerals and vitamins; the protein content is about 28-32%. After 4-5 months of farming, hybrid sunfish can reach a size of 200-250 grams, and the yield per mu can reach more than 500 kg.

Latest price:

The market selling price of sunfish and other aquatic products is relatively stable, remaining at around 18-22 yuan per jin, and the amount brought to market is relatively small, with demand exceeding supply. It is understood that the sunfish currently farmed domestically includes two varieties, the bluegill and the hybrid fish. Among them, the bluegill can be farmed at high density, with a relatively high yield per mu, and is generally brought to market from January to March, mainly sold to the Pearl River Delta. The hybrid fish is generally farmed under a mixed farming model; because it grows slowly and has a low yield per mu, it is brought to market 2-3 months later than the former.

Nutritional value:

The fish meat is delicious and nutritious. According to analysis, it contains 18.8% crude protein and 1.15% crude fat; the content of 17 amino acids in its dry matter is as high as 17.68%, and it is rich in various trace elements such as calcium, iron, phosphorus, sodium and potassium. It is a nourishing aquatic food, and is therefore quite popular with consumers.

Efficacy and effects:

It has the effects of warming the stomach and harmonizing the middle, calming and lowering liver yang, dispelling wind, treating impediment, stopping malaria, benefiting the intestines and brightening the eyes

1. Harmonizing the stomach: neutralizes stomach acid and relieves stomach pain.

2. Benefiting the liver: can promote the circulation of liver qi and relieve liver stagnation.

3. Brightening the eyes: can prevent and treat eye diseases such as dry eyes, blurred vision, conjunctival congestion, optic neuritis, drooping eyelids, pupil dilation and nearsightedness.
