The clownfish, gets its name because it has one or two white stripes on its face, resembling the clown role in Beijing opera. Also called the anemonefish, it has an inseparable symbiotic relationship with sea anemones. Here we introduce to you: how much does a clownfish cost on the market per fish? What food does it eat? How big can it grow? How do you keep it so it does not die easily?

1. How much does a clownfish cost on the market per fish?

The cheapest clownfish cost roughly 36 yuan each. The price is related not only to the variety and size, but also directly to the quality of the fish; some with good quality cost around 300 yuan. At the same time, because clownfish are marine fish, the choice of tank must also be professional. If a beginner is keeping them, the tank is a must-buy, along with the aeration equipment, lighting and aquascaping in the tank, which is equivalent to building an ecosystem. This tank costs a bit more, often several thousand, and expensive ones tens of thousands.

2. What food do clownfish eat? How big can they grow?

Clownfish are omnivorous fish. The food of captive-bred clownfish is relatively simple: pellet feed, crushed shrimp meat or other omnivorous bait are all fine. But in the first two months, add some natural astaxanthin and spirulina powder to the food to make the fish's colors more vivid. Because the domestication time at breeding farms is relatively short, it is even better if you can add some brine shrimp after feeding.

The clownfish reaches a maximum body length of 11cm. Total dorsal spines 10-12; total soft dorsal rays 4-16; total anal spines 2; total soft anal rays 14-15. Juveniles are entirely black with scales concentrated in blue; white patches on the forehead and upper sides; all fins black except the transparent pectoral fins and the outer parts of the soft dorsal fin rays. The color of adults varies with geography and behavior.

3. How do you keep clownfish so they do not die easily?

1. Rearing environment: To keep clownfish, you first need to create a comfortable and cozy environment for them. Find a few live rocks and build a small cave with a natural barrier for them, keeping appropriate water flow inside the cave. It is best to place an oval pebble inside the cave, with the pebble touching the outside of the cave entrance. Because clownfish live symbiotically with sea anemones, it is best to find a relatively large sea anemone and place it at the cave entrance to protect the clownfish.

2. Quarantine before entering the tank: When keeping multiple clownfish, try to put them into the tank at the same time. When you bring clownfish home, quarantine them first, and once you confirm there are no problems, they can enter the tank. Note that the water temperature suitable for clownfish survival is 26-27°C, seawater specific gravity 1.022-1.023, seawater pH between 8.0-8.5, and water hardness 7-9 degrees. Try to adjust the water quality and water temperature within this range.

3. Acclimation and feeding: After clownfish arrive in a new environment, they may need a 2-3 day acclimation stage. During these days, there is no need to feed them. After the acclimation period, get the clownfish to start eating. First feed them brine shrimp, then gradually switch to flake feed. Once they have completely settled down, pellet feed, crushed shrimp meat or other omnivorous bait are all fine.

4. Light control: If keeping clownfish in a bare tank, be sure to reduce water flow at night so as not to disturb the clownfish's rest and thereby affect their development. Also, before they grow into adults, be sure to give them sufficient light. At this time the fish grow relatively fast, and insufficient light easily affects development.
