What Are the Characteristics of the Leaf-Eating Gousiang Pig and the Fermentation Feeding Method for Hybrid Paper Mulberry Leaves
Surely everyone is quite surprised by what the Gousiang pig is. Pigs raised at home in rural areas are also not fed compound feed but eat leaves and forage, though the forage fed is generally self-grown sweet potato leaves and the like. Let us take a look below at what characteristics the Gousiang pig has? How are hybrid paper mulberry leaves fermented? How are they fed?
1. What characteristics does the Gousiang pig have?
The Gousiang pig gets its name from eating hybrid paper mulberry leaves. Its meat is fine and tender, showing a light red color with a translucent quality. Gousiang pig meat contains little water, and therefore carries a rich aroma. In terms of mouthfeel, the lean meat is not dry and the fat is not greasy; the meat flavor is mellow, smooth and springy, sweet, glutinous, and rich. The nutrition of the Gousiang pig is richer than ordinary pork on the market. Test results from the testing center of the Ministry of Agriculture show that the cholesterol content of Gousiang pig is 2/3 lower than ordinary pork, its calcium content is 40% higher than ordinary pork, its amino acids are 66% higher than ordinary pork, its glutamic acid content is as high as 3.88%, its vitamins are 75% higher than ordinary pigs, its selenium content is increased by 153%, its crude fat is 6 times lower than ordinary pigs, its freshness is several times that of ordinary pork, and it contains no harmful metals. All indicators reach organic food standards.
2. How are hybrid paper mulberry leaves fermented?
Feeding paper mulberry to pigs has a history of a thousand years in our country. In the past, farmers would collect paper mulberry leaves, chop them up, and boil them, which not only destroyed the protein of the paper mulberry but also greatly reduced the vitamin content. Now paper mulberry leaves can be fermented before being fed to pigs, which can greatly preserve the original nutrients of the paper mulberry leaves. Pigs fed this way grow faster and their meat is more delicious. So how are paper mulberry leaves fermented?
Paper mulberry leaves can be fermented using a coarse feed degradation agent, which can increase the digestibility and absorption rate of the corresponding nutrients while also increasing part of the energy, converting crude fiber into energy substances. But overall energy may still be lacking, so it is recommended to add some energy feed for fermentation together, or add some energy feed after fermentation.
Fermentation mixing method: take 300 kg of pulped or chopped paper mulberry leaves, add about 80 kg of cornmeal or other energy feed powder, and add one packet of coarse feed degradation agent. The coarse feed degradation agent should first be mixed with cornmeal and then added and mixed evenly. How to maintain the water content? The method is to squeeze a handful firmly by hand; water should seep out between the fingers. Press firmly and tightly, seal well, and ferment. The fermentation time is about 3-8 days. In cold winter the fermentation time is longer, while in hot summer the fermentation time is shorter. Adding saccharin before fermentation to adjust can improve the astringency caused by the large amount of tannins contained in paper mulberry leaves. For example, add 6-10 grams of saccharin per 100 kg of fermentation material, at a cost of only within 0.5 yuan. Dissolve the saccharin in a small amount of water first, then add it to the large batch of material and mix evenly.
It should be noted that after fermentation, it can be stored for a long time under sealed conditions. Once opened, it is recommended to use it up as soon as possible. In addition, after each use, seal it again immediately and promptly, trying to exhaust the air inside as much as possible before sealing and storing again.
3. How to feed?
How to feed after fermentation? After fermentation treatment, the protein content of paper mulberry leaf feed is about 18%, and the energy is about 2.7 Mcal/kg. In addition, overall it still lacks premix (that is, it lacks trace elements, calcium and phosphorus, etc.). From the above nutrient composition analysis, it is found that paper mulberry leaf feed mainly lacks energy and trace elements. In terms of calcium and phosphorus, the calcium content is sufficient while phosphorus is slightly insufficient. Therefore, supplemental nutrition should mainly supplement energy and trace elements in combination. Pigs can be fed like this: 80% fermented paper mulberry leaf pulp wet material, 8% wheat bran or rice bran, 8% cornmeal or wheat flour or dried sweet potato powder or rice flour, etc., and 4% premix. It is also possible not to use the 4% type premix, and only use compound trace element additives + 1% calcium hydrogen phosphate (or 2% bone meal), because paper mulberry leaves contain rich vitamins, so there is no need to add them additionally. Raising pigs this way, estimated nutritionally, from 15 kg to 90 kg should take about 110 days. During this period, pay attention to supplying sufficient drinking water and raw materials.
