The pineapple fish, also called the English cichlid, the Xifuluo fish, the new blue firemouth cichlid, etc., is usually fairly gentle and quiet in temperament; swimming about in a fish tank planted with aquatic plants, it looks very refined and elegant, but when food is insufficient, it will also attack small fish because of competing for food and other reasons. So, how much does a pineapple fish cost on the market? How big can it grow? How do you choose one? How do you raise it so it grows well?

1. How much does a pineapple fish cost on the market?

The pineapple fish is an ornamental species, and its price is set according to its color, type and ornamental value. The pineapple fish currently sold on the market are basically fry, priced at about 10-15 yuan each, while adult pineapple fish can be priced according to their size, type and color; compared with other types of ornamental fish, however, the pineapple fish is still fairly affordable.

2. How big can it grow?

The golden pineapple can reach a body length of 18 cm-20 cm. It is oval in shape, with a golden-yellow body color and red markings on the head. It has large eyes and a small mouth, and the iris of the eye is golden-red. The female is slightly smaller than the male and its color is a somewhat pale white.

3. How do you choose one?

1. The yellower the juvenile pineapple fish, the better; do not choose those juveniles whose body color is pale. When choosing, it is best to turn off the light and select under natural light, as this is more accurate.

2. For juvenile pineapple fish, choose short, round pineapples; do not choose long ones. Round ones look good when grown, while long ones do not.

3. For juvenile pineapple fish, choose the larger-bodied ones in a brood, not the small ones; the large ones are often males and will have bright colors when grown. Moreover, large juveniles often grow very big, while small ones cannot grow that big.

4. How do you raise it so it grows well?

1. Water quality: The pineapple fish has a fairly strong ability to adapt to water quality, not as demanding as parrots, but you should still pay attention to maintaining the water quality it likes so as to raise fish with a bright yellow color. It likes slightly acidic soft water; never keep pineapple fish in alkaline or hard water, otherwise the pineapple's color will turn pale and not yellow.

2. Water temperature: The water temperature required by the pineapple fish is not as high as that for juveniles; it can grow well from 22-30°C. But if you want the pineapple to grow a bit faster, it is still better to keep it above 26°C.

3. Feed: The pineapple fish is not as picky about feed as the small pineapple; it will readily eat artificial pellet feed, bloodworms, fish eggs, shrimp, mealworms, chicken and duck liver and so on, and it often eats very full and can eat a lot. But the large pineapple fish loves mealworms most, and grows fastest when eating mealworms.

4. Color development: Once the pineapple is raised to 6 cm, you need to start paying attention to color development; do not wait until it is raised to over ten centimeters, as that would be a bit late for color development. Pineapple color development both enhances red and enhances yellow; the main feeds for color development are fish eggs (enhance yellow), river shrimp (enhance red and brighten color), and artificial color-enhancing feed (such as Baozeng Hong). Pineapples that are long-term fed fish eggs have a yellower body color than ordinary pineapples, while river shrimp have a strong color-brightening effect on the pineapple's red eye rings and the red markings on its body.

5. Mixed keeping: The pineapple is a gentle large fish; be careful not to keep it mixed with some overly ferocious large fish (such as flowerhorns and red devils), otherwise the pineapple's fins will be repeatedly torn and unable to recover, greatly reducing its ornamental value.
