In recent years, the pig farming industry has accelerated its transformation and upgrading, and its production methods have undergone tremendous changes, shifting from traditional pig farming to modern pig farming. So what are the main contents of standardized pig farming and the key points for site selection? What are the national support and preferential policies? Standardized pig farming technology is the only way to achieve a pig industry that is safe, ecological, high-yielding, high-quality and sustainable. At present, some farmers lack a correct understanding of its concept and site selection requirements, so they are introduced as follows:

1. The main contents of standardized farming technology include the following five major aspects:

1. Improved breeds: This mainly means selecting high-yielding, high-quality and efficient improved pig breeds suited to local conditions, with clear breed sources, good performance and passing quarantine inspection. Our county mainly promotes DLY breeds, namely Large Yorkshire pigs, Landrace pigs and Duroc pigs.

2. Facility-based farming: This mainly means that the site selection and layout of the farm are scientific and reasonable, and that production facilities and equipment such as livestock and poultry barns, feeding and environmental control meet the needs of standardized production.

3. Standardized production: This mainly means formulating and implementing scientific and standardized feeding management procedures, staffing livestock and veterinary technicians commensurate with the scale of feeding, strictly complying with relevant regulations on the use of feed, feed additives and veterinary drugs, and implementing dynamic information-based management in the production process.

4. Institutionalized epidemic prevention: This mainly means complete epidemic prevention facilities, a sound epidemic prevention system, and the scientific adoption of comprehensive prevention and control measures for livestock and poultry diseases.

5. Harmless treatment of manure: This means that manure treatment methods are appropriate, facilities are complete and operating normally, and the harmless resource utilization of manure is achieved or relevant discharge standards are met.

2. Site selection requirements

To build a pig farm, the first thing to consider is the issue of site selection. Whether the site selection is appropriate not only affects the sanitation and epidemic prevention of the pig farm, the growth of the pigs and the work efficiency of the keepers, but also affects the effectiveness of pig farming, the level of benefits and the protection of the surrounding environment. Site selection should consider comprehensive factors, such as area, terrain, orientation, transportation, water source, power supply, epidemic prevention conditions, natural disasters and the economic environment. Generally, site selection should follow the following principles:

1. The pig farm site should be within the livestock land designated by the local government.

2. Convenient transportation and abundant feed resources.

3. Far away from villages, schools, factories (mining areas), scenic and historic interest areas and drinking water sources.

4. It must not be located in a basic farmland protection area.

5. At least 1000 m away from domestic drinking water sources, residential areas, main traffic roads, other livestock and poultry farms and slaughtering, processing and trading sites.

6. Passing environmental assessment and meeting environmental protection requirements, as well as obtaining the Animal Epidemic Prevention License upon review by the county-level animal husbandry administrative department.

What are the national support and preferential policies?

1. Land for the farming industry shall be treated as land for crop farming. Water and electricity used by the farming industry shall be charged according to crop farming rates. Financial departments should open up small loans for the farming industry, increase credit support, and may implement joint household guarantees. For leading agricultural industrialization enterprises at all levels, breeding livestock and poultry production enterprises, advantageous livestock product production areas, dairy cow farming communities and various scale farms, there are different project supports, but applications are required.

2. In order to stabilize pork supply and improve the pork reserve system, the state will provide financial subsidies for pig farming, especially sow farming. The state will subsidize 50 yuan per sow. Of this, the state bears 60% and local governments bear 40%. In addition, the state will also reward major counties for pig transportation.

3. Establish a subsidy system for breeding sows. In order to protect the production capacity of breeding sows, the state provides subsidies to farmers (farms) raising breeding sows at a subsidy standard of 50 yuan per sow. All localities should promptly formulate specific plans and, as soon as possible, distribute the subsidy funds allocated by the central finance and matched by local governments to the hands of breeding sow raisers. Areas with the conditions may appropriately raise the subsidy standard.

4. Actively promote breeding sow insurance work. In order to effectively reduce the risk of raising breeding sows and encourage breeding sow production, the state establishes a breeding sow insurance system, with premiums borne 80% by the government and 20% by farmers (farms). The central finance provides differentiated subsidies to the central and western regions. All localities should actively support insurance institutions in carrying out breeding sow insurance business, encourage farmers (farms) to insure, and guard against risks such as diseases.

5. Support standardized scale raising of pigs. Implementing standardized scale raising is the development direction of pig production. Local people's governments at all levels should take measures to encourage the construction of large standardized pig farms, guide farmers to establish farming communities, reduce farming costs, improve epidemic prevention conditions and increase pig production capacity. The state provides appropriate support for infrastructure construction such as manure treatment and biogas digesters at standardized scale pig farms (communities).
