The mantis shrimp is also known as pipa shrimp, pipixia, xia pazi, xia gong tuozi, lai niao xia, mantis shrimp, and xia gu, and is distributed in shallow water mud and sand or rock crevices near the coast. So how much is the Wuhan mantis shrimp market price per jin? Is it the same as the mantis shrimp? Can it be artificially bred? How to raise it so it does not die?According to the Wuhan farmers market, the retail price of mantis shrimp has dropped from 50 yuan to 60 yuan per 500 grams to 110 yuan for 3 jin (1500 grams), equivalent to about 36.7 yuan per 500 grams.

Is the mantis shrimp the same as the mantis shrimp?

The mantis shrimp is commonly known as “lai niao xia”, “mantis shrimp”, “pa xia”, “kou xia gu”, etc. It belongs to the phylum Arthropoda, class Crustacea, order Stomatopoda, family Squillidae. It is a common marine economic animal, a benthic burrowing shrimp that lives in shallow tidal and deep-sea mud and sand or coral reefs, hiding by day and emerging at night. Its family has as many as more than 60 species. Its distribution range is extremely wide. In Guangdong there are stomatopods imported from Thailand, with a body length of up to 30 cm, while domestic stomatopods have a body length of about 10 to 15 cm and a weight of 50 to 100 grams. The stomatopod is a coastal nearshore species with a low price, and is a nutritious seafood food with fresh juice and tender meat. It is the same as the mantis shrimp.

Can the mantis shrimp be artificially bred?

The mantis shrimp can be artificially bred. The mantis shrimp is mostly burrowing, belongs to marine life, and often digs burrows in shallow sea sand bottoms or mud-sand bottoms, with burrows mostly in a “U” shape. Stomatopods are carnivorous and mostly prey on small invertebrates. Attention should be paid to water temperature, salinity, water change frequency, and so on.

Breeding methods:

1. You can choose artificially bred mantis shrimp or female mantis shrimp that have already mated in natural sea areas.

2. When cultivating mantis shrimp, special attention should be paid to temperature differences. Generally speaking, during cultivation, the water temperature should be controlled at 20-30°C. Water temperature is an inhibiting factor for the gonadal development of mantis shrimp. Within the suitable temperature range, the higher the water temperature, the faster the development. If the summer temperature is too high, the water level can be increased to prevent the water temperature from being too high and affecting the egg-carrying and hatching of mantis shrimp, or even causing death. At a water temperature of 25-30°C, it takes 7-15 days for the egg to develop from fertilization to hatching of the larva.

3. Mantis shrimp can feed on fish, shrimp, and shellfish, but live small shellfish are best, as this can avoid polluting the water quality. Bait should be in small pieces and evenly scattered for feeding, so as to improve bait consumption and reduce mutual killing caused by competition for food. According to the characteristic of mantis shrimp hiding by day and emerging at night, feeding once every evening is sufficient. The feeding amount is 5%-20% of the mantis shrimp's weight, and should be appropriately increased or decreased according to the egg-carrying status of the mantis shrimp, water temperature, weather conditions, bait type and quality status, etc.

4. During the cultivation period, pond inspection is essential work, checking the water intake and drainage, the activity and feeding of mantis shrimp, water quality, and especially the release of larvae. Once it is found that the mantis shrimp have released pseudozoea larvae, the larvae are collected into the nursery pond for seedling cultivation.

How to raise mantis shrimp so they do not die?

1. Suitable conditions for shrimp:

Water temperature 18-19°C, salinity 16-18%. Shrimp require clean water quality, so the water must be circulated or changed at least once a day.

2. Two points must be noted when mixing seawater:

First, tap water needs to stand for more than half a day before use (and the sediment below must be removed). A chemical method can be used to remove chlorine. The commonly used dechlorination agent is sodium thiosulfate, and its dosage is generally 1 gram of sodium thiosulfate added to 10 kg of tap water. Second, sea salt essence (quality is very important) is a special salt for feeding seafood, so ordinary table salt cannot be used as a substitute.

3. Oxygenation:

When feeding seafood, it is not that the more oxygen the better. If too much oxygen is added, the gas sprayed out by the oxygen pump will kill the seafood. If there is more water and fewer shrimp, no oxygen may be added or only circulation may be turned on.

4. Adjusting the pH of the water:

The pH of water is closely related to the survival of various types of seafood. The commonly used substances for adjusting the pH of water quality are sodium dihydrogen phosphate and sodium bicarbonate. Before use, these two chemicals should be dissolved separately in pure water and prepared into a 1:100 solution for use. Sodium dihydrogen phosphate can increase the acidity of the water; sodium bicarbonate can increase the alkalinity of the water. When using, the prepared solution can be added drop by drop to the water as needed, stirred fully, and continuously tested with PH paper until the pH of the water reaches the requirement. The change in the pH of the water should be controlled within the range of ±0.1.
