Propagation Methods for Kalanchoe tomentosa 'Black'
1. Cuttings
This propagation method is actually very simple. Choose a robust and plump branch, cut it off with a tool, and insert it into prepared sandy soil.
The sandy soil should be watered thoroughly in advance, then placed in a shady spot until it is slightly moist before use. After cutting, place it in a ventilated and shady spot for about 20 days, and it will grow new roots. During this period, do not overwater. If the environment is not too dry, simply mist the surface of the sandy soil. Overwatering can easily cause the wound to rot.
2. Division
This method can be done together with repotting the plant. First, use a small shovel to dig out the entire plant, taking it out together with the soil around the roots. When digging, be careful not to damage its root system, because once the roots are damaged, the new plant will at best grow slowly, and at worst not grow at all. Then gently remove some of the soil by hand, and select a healthy, plump, and robust offset to replant.
However, do not water immediately after planting. Wait about 3 days before watering. Be careful not to let water accumulate in the soil, because at this point it has not fully established itself. If water accumulates, it can easily send it to an early grave. Also, do not place it directly in sunlight, especially the strong midday sun, so that the intense light does not stress it too much and affect its normal growth.
The above are the two propagation methods for Kalanchoe tomentosa 'Black'. Both methods are very simple and easy to do. Beginner gardeners can also try their hand at them!
