How much does one White-banded Snake cost? The White-banded Snake is also called the Money White-banded Snake (Bungarus multicinctus). It is not weighed by weight, but is used as a whole snake in formulas, and one snake costs about 100 yuan.

Benefits and effects of the White-banded Snake

In traditional Chinese medicine, the small White-banded Snake (commonly known as the Money White-banded Snake) is more commonly used and easier to use as medicine. It is mostly taken soaked in liquor or ground into powder.

It also has good therapeutic effects on stubborn diseases such as hemiplegia, paralysis, numbness of the hands and feet, stroke, rheumatism, arthritis, psoriasis and the like.

The authentic wholesale price is between 45 yuan and 70 yuan.

Pharmacological effects

1. The venom of the five-step snake and the viper acts mainly as a hemotoxin. After being bitten by a five-step snake, local swelling, pain, ecchymosis and ulceration appear; systemically, there may be massive hemolysis, bleeding, coughing up blood, and water and electrolyte disturbances; in severe cases, blood pressure drops sharply and rapidly, leading to respiratory and cardiac arrest and death. This drop in blood pressure is related to the release of histamine (and

also 5-hydroxytryptamine, bradykinin and the like). Both clinical patients and experimental animals show electrocardiographic and pathological changes of acute myocardial damage. Acute hemolysis causes hyperkalemia and can also lead to acute heart failure. Loss of blood coagulability and extensive bleeding are prominent symptoms after a venomous snake bite, and the mechanism is that the snake venom promotes blood coagulation. The five-step snake has a thrombin-like effect (and also has anti-prothrombin and fibrinolytic effects), while viper venom has a thromboplastin-like effect (acting on factor X). They can cause fibrinogen in plasma to precipitate as fibrin, forming microclots deposited within the plasma. These fibrin microclots are dissolved by the action of fibrinolysin, resulting in loss of blood coagulability due to depletion of fibrin, and bleeding is difficult to stop (defibrination syndrome). Most viper venoms contain “hemorrhagic toxin”, that is, a vascular toxin, which has a destructive effect on the vascular system (especially the lungs) and can cause significant systemic bleeding and local hemorrhagic edema. This vascular toxin is a protein with low proteolytic activity and no enzymatic activity.

An injection made from the five-step snake can treat hypertension and can significantly lower the blood pressure of anesthetized dogs; its blood-pressure-lowering mechanism is direct vasodilation. It also has sedative, hypnotic and certain analgesic effects in mice.

2. The venom of the many-banded krait (Bungarus multicinctus) acts mainly as a neurotoxin. After being bitten by a many-banded krait, there is only local numbness and little sensation. Once

neurological symptoms appear, severe cases may show respiratory paralysis, which easily leads to death. The cause of respiratory paralysis may be a peripheral curare-like effect. Its onset is relatively slow, but recovery is also slow or very difficult. The antagonistic effect of anticholinesterase drugs is not obvious.

The many-banded krait also contains beta-Bungarotoxin, which has the function of inhibiting the release of acetylcholine from nerve endings. This effect differs from cobra neurotoxin (Cobrotoxin), alpha-Bungarotoxin or curare.

The venom of the many-banded krait not only inhibits the respiratory muscles and nervous system (especially the respiratory center), but also markedly inhibits gastrointestinal function (gastrointestinal paralysis). Before respiratory paralysis is caused, heart failure or shock generally does not appear. In critically ill patients, however, severe myocardial damage may occur, so the occurrence of circulatory failure should be prevented during rescue.

Suitable population

Contraindicated in those with yin deficiency and internal heat.

Note: 1) For rheumatic arthralgia, contracture of the tendons and vessels and similar conditions, it can be used in combination with Siegesbeckia orientalis (Xi Xian Cao), Angelica pubescens (Du Huo), Clematis chinensis (Wei Ling Xian) and other medicines; to treat deviated mouth and eye, indistinct speech, or contracture of the tendons and vessels, muscle paralysis and similar conditions, it can be used in combination with scorpion, Angelica sinensis (Dang Gui), Notopterygium incisum (Qiang Huo), Angelica dahurica (Bai Zhi) and other medicines, or taken soaked in liquor. To treat tetanus, spasmodic convulsions and infantile convulsive syncope due to fright, it is used in combination with Zaocys dhumnades (Wu Shao She), centipede and other medicines. In addition, the White-banded Snake can also be used for leprosy and scabies, having the effect of dispelling wind and attacking toxin, and can be used together with Zaocys dhumnades (Wu Shao She), realgar and other medicines.
