What to Do When the Firecracker Vine Drops Its Leaves? Causes and Solutions

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
The firecracker vine, also called yellow eel vine, is a type of climbing plant, and its flowering period can last more than half a year. The flowering period begins in January. The flowers are red and arranged in strings, and when they are all in full bloom, they really look like strings of firecrackers after being lit, which is how the plant got its name. Below is an introduction to how to handle it when it drops leaves.

1. Overwatering

In fact, most plants dropping leaves is related to watering, and this plant grows quickly, produces many flowers, and has a long flowering period, so it needs a large amount of water to sustain itself. Also, in daily cultivation we should keep its potting soil slightly moist. However, some friends mistakenly think it needs a large amount of watering, causing water to accumulate in the soil, or leaving it in too wet an environment for too long. At this point the plant very easily drops leaves.

Solution: If the potting soil drains poorly, then it is recommended to take the plant out whole with its soil for drying; if the pot has good breathability, it can be placed in a well-ventilated spot for a period of time. When watering daily, do not do it blindly; observe the soil condition more, and water when the soil surface is somewhat dry. When flower buds are growing in autumn, watering must be reduced, and at this time it is best to keep the soil slightly dry.

2. Soil Caking

Soil caking is mostly caused by long-term watering that does not soak through; after the soil cakes, the roots cannot normally absorb water and nutrients, and after too long, its leaves will fall one after another.

Solution: If the caking is severe, first water the soil thoroughly, and even after water flows out from the bottom of the flower pot, continue watering. Water slowly, do not pour it all in at once. At the same time, ensure good drainage, and never let water accumulate in the pot for a long time. After handling it, leave it for a period of time, and it will slowly recover.
