Why Do Aquaculture Ponds Need to Be Cleared? Detailed Methods Explained
Pond aquaculture refers to the production method of using ponds to raise aquatic economic animals and plants. A pond is a body of water smaller than a lake.So why do aquaculture ponds need to be cleared? What are the specific methods?
Why do aquaculture ponds need to be cleared?
Clearing aquaculture ponds is an important task that directly affects the farming benefits of farmers and disease prevention and control, but a large number of farmers, for various reasons, have not paid sufficient attention to this task, bringing many adverse factors to the fishery production of the coming year.
The dangers of not clearing ponds: due to many years of high-density farming, dead organisms, fish residual feed, feces and organic matter continuously accumulate. As the farming season arrives, water temperature gradually rises, and a large amount of humus in the water body decomposes under the action of bacteria, consuming a large amount of dissolved oxygen in the water, and also releasing toxic and harmful substances such as hydrogen sulfide and ammonia, causing harm to fish. At the same time, insufficient dissolved oxygen leads to slow growth of farmed fish, increased feed conversion ratio, frequent fish diseases, and decreased yield per unit area. In severe cases, it can also cause pond turnovers and fish deaths, causing relatively large economic losses to farmers. Therefore, clearing ponds has very important practical significance for farmers to improve economic benefits.
What are the specific methods for clearing aquaculture ponds?
Methods of clearing ponds:
1. Quicklime pond clearing method:
(1) With pond water at 5-10cm, use 50-80kg of quicklime per mu. Dig several small pits in the pond, add quicklime to the pits with water to dissolve into lime slurry, then evenly splash it over the entire pond;
(2) When the pond water depth is 1m, use 125-200kg of quicklime per mu, dissolve the quicklime into lime slurry and splash it over the entire pond.
Precautions: It takes 7 days for the efficacy of quicklime to disappear after pond clearing. Quicklime should be selected in lump form, relatively light, free of impurities, and reacting violently when encountering water.
2. Bleaching powder pond clearing: Select bleaching powder containing about 30% effective chlorine. For a water depth of 1m per mu, use 13.5kg (20ppm); for pond water at 5-10cm, use 5-8kg per mu. The method is to dissolve bleaching powder in water and immediately splash it evenly over the entire pond. Fish can be stocked 5 days after pond clearing.
