Detailed Guide to Salmon Farming Techniques: Raising This Aquatic Delicacy
Salmon originally referred to Atlantic salmon; now Pacific salmon is also called salmon. It often appears in Western cuisine and Japanese food and has a delicious taste. So, what farming techniques are there for salmon? Let's take a look together!
1. Farming Conditions
1. Farming pond structure
The farming pond adopts a greenhouse cement floor structure, with plastic sheeting covering the greenhouse roof. Each cement pond in the greenhouse has an area of 100 sq m and a depth of 1.5-2.0 m. An water inlet is set above the cement pond, a drain is set below, and there is a sewage discharge trench in the middle of the bottom to facilitate waste removal.
2. Water source
It is best to use deep underground well water. Deep well water is of relatively good quality. If the iron content in the water is high, a tower-type aeration iron removal device should also be equipped. It is worth noting that a water quality analysis should be done before using the water source.
3. Aeration and power generation equipment
One 7-10 kilowatt blower is used for aeration. In addition, prepare another aerator as a backup. To avoid power outages, a set of generator units should also be prepared.
2. Preparation Before Stocking
For new cement ponds, they should be soaked in water for 2 months, then disinfected with bactericidal drugs before they can be used for farming. Old cement ponds should also be properly disinfected. They can be used only after disinfection with bactericidal drugs 10 days before fry and fingerling stocking, with a water depth of about 1 m.
3. Fry and Fingerling Stocking
Stock 40-50 Pacific salmon of about 30-50 g per cubic meter of water. After five months of rearing, the average individual weight can generally reach 900-1000 g. Ordinary salmon can be marketed after half a year of rearing. Fingerlings can be stocked in April in spring.
4. Feed Feeding
Use pelleted feed for domestication and feeding. The crude protein content of the feed is 42-45%. When the water temperature is below 8°C, feed 2 times a day, once in the morning and once in the afternoon. When the water temperature is 8-15°C, feed 3 times a day, with one additional feeding at noon. Each feeding should be about 80% full; do not feed too much.
5. Water Temperature Regulation
Because Pacific salmon is a cold-water fish, it has relatively strict water temperature requirements. Its optimal growth water temperature is 13-15°C, while the well water temperature is about 8°C, so the water temperature needs to be regulated to meet growth conditions. During the rearing period, two methods can be used to regulate the water temperature. First, when the temperature is relatively low in early spring and late autumn, cover the greenhouse frame with plastic sheeting to raise the pond water temperature. Second, in summer when the temperature is relatively high, remove the plastic sheeting and increase the exchange volume of well water to lower the pond water temperature. Through the above two methods, the water temperature should be kept no lower than 5°C and no higher than 15°C. In spring and summer, the water temperature can be maintained at 13-15°C.
6. Water Quality Adjustment
During the rearing period, pay attention to the water quality of the pond water. This is the key to farming fish. Keep the pond water fresh, discharge waste regularly, and change water frequently. The number of water changes and the amount of water changed should be flexibly controlled according to changes in water temperature, water quality, and other conditions. In terms of oxygen, use a blower to continuously aerate the pond water. Air supply can be stopped only when feeding bait. The dissolved oxygen in the pond water should be maintained above 8 mg/L. Only in this way can the survival rate of salmon be improved.
7. Fish Disease Prevention and Control
In salmon farming, adhere to the principle of prevention first and do a good job in fish disease prevention and control. During the rearing period, use formalin and Manjing, two drugs, to disinfect the pond water. Use the whole-pond splashing method once every half month. Formalin is used at 20 g per cubic meter of water, and Manjing is used at 0.5 g per cubic meter of water.
The above is the salmon farming technique compiled for you by the editor. I hope it can help you!
