Sea cucumber is hailed as one of the world's eight great delicacies, and it has not only high edible value but also high medicinal value. So, what conditions are needed for sea cucumber farming? Let's take a look together, fellow farmers!

1. Hydrological conditions

Sea cucumber has relatively high requirements for hydrological conditions, especially for water quality. In places with good water quality, the yield and quality of sea cucumbers are also higher. When choosing hydrological conditions, we should choose estuaries or outlets far away from pollution. Next, the ammonia nitrogen content in seawater should be low, the salinity of seawater should preferably be around 25 to 35, the dissolved oxygen in the water should reach above 5 mg/L, and harmful substances in the aquaculture water body should be lower than the water quality standards stipulated by the state. For this point, samples can be taken to the local environmental protection station for testing. Also, build dams reasonably according to tidal conditions, observe precipitation and rainwater collection area, avoid land freshwater entering the aquaculture pond, and also understand the local seawater temperature changes to determine the depth of the pond water.

2. Artificial reefs

Reefs are also an indispensable condition in sea cucumber farming. Most of us use artificial reefs. Reefs mainly provide sea cucumbers with a place to rest, live and feed. The reefs we most commonly use are generally stone reefs, cement pipe reefs, plastic pipe reefs and tile reefs. Different reefs are built in different ways. Besides these commonly used artificial reefs, there are also some others, such as hollow bricks, cement boards, waste tires, abalone cages, ceramic pipes and bamboo baskets. These things can also be used as reefs.

3. Terrain and bottom quality

The terrain and bottom quality of the farm are also very important. Generally speaking, sea cucumber farms are not chosen in places with large wind and waves. The best sites are relatively gentle inner bays and coasts, such as rocky coasts, low-lying saline-alkali land and intertidal zones, which are excellent farming sites. When building the farm, we also need to consider natural disaster issues such as wind shelter and flood avoidance, so as to ensure the farm can proceed smoothly. The final issue is that it is best for the plot to have a bottom of reefs, rubble, or silt and fine sand, so that the aquaculture pond can have sufficient bearing capacity.

4. Biological environment

The biological environment mainly refers to the sea cucumber seedling base and the presence of harmful and competing organisms. First, the place where we build the sea cucumber farm should have artificially bred seedlings, because sea cucumbers are not suitable for long-distance transport, and it should be convenient to purchase seedlings. This is one point in the biological environment. Second, we should understand the impact of local aquatic organisms on sea cucumbers, rule out areas with great harm, and choose areas rich in bait.

Sea cucumber farming requires attention to many details. I hope everyone can gain some inspiration and help after reading this article.
