Pike, also known as duck fish, is the most aggressive predatory fish among freshwater fish. In our country there are two species, the black-spotted pike and the white-spotted pike, with tender flesh and a delicious taste. So, what farming techniques are there for pike? Let's find out together!

1. Pond preparation

Before farming pike, you must first prepare the farming pond. Control the pond area according to the number of fish being farmed, generally around 6-7 mu, with a depth of more than 2 m, ensuring an ample water source, good drainage and irrigation capacity, and the ability to adjust the water temperature normally. Then thoroughly disinfect the entire pond. About 3 days before stocking the fry, splash an appropriate amount of soybean milk or soybean residue into the pond to increase the biological feed in the pond. Then place plants such as water hyacinth on the pond to provide shade, and plant an appropriate amount of aquatic grass as hiding places for the pike to prevent them from cannibalizing each other.

2. Feed preparation

Pike is a predatory fish, so the main bait is small fish. Before stocking pike fry, we should put sufficient bait fish into the pond. The body length of the bait fish should be maintained at around 5 cm. It is best to cultivate them in the original pike pond, but before stocking, the bait fish must be disinfected to prevent them from carrying pathogens into the pond and affecting the growth of the pike. Then apply fertilizer appropriately to cultivate the bait fish. The bait fish are mainly carp, silver carp and so on. When the bait fish grow to around 5 cm, stock pike fry of the same growth size.

3. Grow-out management

As pike grow for longer periods, their requirements for the palatability of bait fish become increasingly strict, and the amount eaten each time gradually increases. Therefore, we should reasonably adjust the feeding frequency and amount according to the growth progress of the pike, and pay attention to carrying out a sorting and separate rearing treatment once a month, putting those of the same size together to prevent pike from cannibalizing each other, avoiding the harmful phenomena of big fish eating small fish and strong fish eating weak fish, which affects economic returns. When pike are raised to the end of the year, their body weight can reach about 2 jin, meeting the standard for market sale, and they can be harvested at the appropriate time.

4. Disease prevention and control

Pike have strong growth ability and generally do not become diseased, with a low incidence rate. However, under artificial farming conditions, the disease resistance of pike is reduced. During farming, we must do a good job in management. If management is poor, pike are highly prone to branchial necrosis disease. Branchial necrosis disease severely hinders the breathing of pike, causing them to die from lack of oxygen in the later stage. During the farming process, we should maintain good water quality, clean and pollution-free, and cool, creating a good growing environment for the pike. After disease occurs, promptly splash agents such as Yelüjing into the pond for disinfection and prevention, avoiding an expansion of the disease.
