Just How Big Is Darius, the World's Largest Rabbit?

In people's impressions, rabbits are mostly about the size of a cat, weighing mostly between 2 and 4 kg, and there are also rabbits kept as pets, weighing about under 2 kg, while the world's largest rabbit is called Darius. So, how big is Darius, the world's largest rabbit?

1. How big is the Darius rabbit?

1. The Darius rabbit measures 1.22 m in body length and weighs up to 45 jin. In 2014 it was certified by Guinness World Records as the world's largest rabbit. It eats 12 carrots every day, and in a year it eats through 26,000 yuan. Although the Darius rabbit won the honor of “world's largest rabbit”, it is a worry for its owner, because the cost of keeping it is very high.

2. The owner of the Darius rabbit is Annette Edwards, a British woman. She said: “Darius never wants to stop eating. He is very greedy, and I have to watch him.” “I let Darius eat as much of his favorite hay as possible, but he always wants more food. I have to keep an eye on the carrots; he loves carrots very much, especially the green tops. Darius has a good character, so when he tries to steal more food, I still can't get angry. Darius has eaten almost everything in my house.”

3. Before the Darius rabbit won the title of the world's largest rabbit, a rabbit named Amy held the world's number one spot, with a body length of 1.2 m and a weight of 24 kg. Because it could not compare with the Darius rabbit, it had to settle for second place. It eats two apples, a handful of carrots, half a cabbage and a large pile of fresh grass every day.

4. In a mountainous area in northern Italy, the world's largest rabbit lies stretched out, over 60 m long and 6 m high. It is made of a soft and also waterproof material, and the yarn used for the rabbit fur is made from the wool of dozens of small goats, stuffed with straw inside. This rabbit sculpture was built in 2005 and was meant to be kept until 2025. It is hand-knitted, its color is pink, and it feels especially soft to the touch.

2. The world's heaviest rabbit is Ralph!

1. The Darius rabbit is the world's largest rabbit, but it is not the world's heaviest rabbit. The world's heaviest rabbit is a rabbit named Ralph, with a body length of 91 cm and a weight that has reached 50 jin, 5 jin heavier than the Darius rabbit. It only failed to win the “world's largest rabbit” honor because of its body length.

2. Ralph once lost in 2010 to a rabbit named “Darius” whose weight surged to 3.5 stone (about 21 kg), but afterward it reclaimed the top spot on the fat rabbit list with a weight of 3 stone 8 pounds (about 25 kg).

3. Ralph eats cabbage, broccoli, corn cobs, sweet corn, half a cucumber, carrots, as well as half a bag of broad beans, two apples, butter biscuits, two slices of bread and Weetabix every day. The owner has to spend 50 pounds a week on this rabbit's rations.
