Beekeeping is a good choice these days. That is because the market price of honey has risen. But bees are not that easy to keep. Do you know the major taboos in beekeeping? Next, let the editor of Tuliu.com walk everyone through them.

1. Never open the hive at will

Apart from necessary feeding and honey harvesting, it is best not to open the hive at will. The most suitable temperature for bees to survive is 35 degrees; this temperature is the most suitable for bees and also the most suitable for their reproduction. Opening the hive to check without authorization will affect the temperature inside the hive. You should know that whether it is a hot day or a cold day, the temperature inside the hive will change. Moreover, the editor thinks that opening the hive will disturb the bees, and this will greatly increase the occurrence of robbing behavior among bees, so it is best not to be too curious.

2. Never treat white-headed pupae as a sign of wax moth larvae appearing

First of all, white-headed pupae are actually dead pupae. In fact, the editor believes that the appearance of white-headed pupae is more likely caused by human factors. White-headed pupae caused by wax moth larvae will form lines. As for other phenomena, if they appear in patches, the beekeeper should note that this is bee pupa disease in the bee pupae and it needs to be handled promptly.

3. Never blindly use double grafting of larvae

We all know that breeding queen bees is a very important step in the beekeeping process. Many more experienced beekeepers adopt the method of double grafting of larvae to breed queen bees in order to obtain more queen bees. However, the editor has not yet learned from anywhere what advantages this method has for the queen bees bred; on the contrary, there are disadvantages. Not to mention the increased labor and mental drain on the beekeeper, this method will force a change in the original queen-rearing work of the hive, and the quality of the queen bees bred is indeed not very good. The worker bees produced by queen bees bred by this method have a relatively short lifespan, and the queen bees die easily, causing great losses to beekeepers.

4. Never keep two queen bees in one hive

In fact, two queens in the same colony will exist for a period of time during colony keeping, and it is not unusual, but this is limited to the period of colony division or the period when old and new queen bees alternate, and it is only for a very short time. If it lasts too long, a series of situations such as disordered work among worker bees will occur. In severe cases, it will lead to a situation in which one colony fights and kills one another, so beekeepers generally should not try this kind of beekeeping game.

5. Never harvest all the honey when extracting

Honey is the food source of a bee colony. Worker bees need honey to provide energy for the large amount of work they do every day, and larvae need honey to grow and metamorphose. Once the beekeeper takes away all the honey, first the worker bees will eat some bee pupae, and moreover, other bee pupae will also starve to death because they have no food. There is an old saying in China: leave a line in everything. I think this saying applies in every aspect. In beekeeping, this line means leaving enough honey for the bees to ensure the orderly operation of the hive.

Alright, the above are the beekeeping taboos brought to you by the editor of Tuliu.com. We hope they are helpful to everyone. See you next time.
