The guinea fowl has a small and delicate build. It gets its name because the hen's head feathers are so lush that they resemble the feathered hat of a European noblewoman. The guinea fowl has substantial economic value. So, what breeding techniques are there for guinea fowl? Let's find out together!

1. Coop preparation

Compared with other poultry, guinea fowl are very easy to raise. The guinea fowl coop should be built facing south, away from factories, residential areas and other polluted and noisy places. Note that the coop must have good ventilation and be kept dry. Using dirt as the coop floor is not recommended; try to lay a layer of cement on the floor, because this not only effectively controls how damp the coop is, but also makes sanitation handling easier and more convenient. Build a run outside the coop so the birds have enough space to move around, but anti-escape measures must be installed around and on top of the run. Set up some perches so the birds have a place to rest and roost.

2. Rational feeding

The feeding method for guinea fowl should be determined by their growth stage, since each growth stage has different nutritional needs. So you should prepare a feeding method for each stage. For example, during the brooding period, first carry out a thorough disinfection of the brooding room, and disinfect daily utensils as well. After entering the brooding room, supply water immediately. Once the chicks have finished drinking, feed them with feed of uniform moisture for about three days. To increase the chicks' growth rate and disease resistance, there should be a reasonable feed formulation plan, and this plan can continue until the chicks have passed through the brooding period.

3. Strengthen management

To succeed at raising them, you must strengthen management of the chicks from the start. All of the chicks' bodily functions are not yet fully developed, and their disease resistance and cold resistance are very weak, so pay attention to strengthening the coop's insulation and ventilation to prevent the chicks from catching colds from drafts and developing diseases. Also, in low-temperature weather, ensure the chicks get enough light, so lighting equipment should be installed in the coop. This applies not only to the brooding house for chicks but also to the laying house for hens. The coop must be kept clean and disinfected regularly to prevent the effects of overly hot or cold weather on the birds. Also, let the birds move around often, which not only improves the texture of the meat but also effectively prevents some diseases.

4. Disease prevention and control

Disease prevention and control is the aspect that requires the most attention in the process of raising guinea fowl. After the chicks hatch, all chicks should be vaccinated, and at every subsequent growth stage, disease-prevention vaccines should be administered on schedule. Patrol and inspect frequently, paying attention to the birds' activity and feeding characteristics. If any abnormality is found, isolate the sick birds immediately, then examine the specific illness of the sick birds and treat them accordingly. If it is an infectious disease, disinfect the coop and all the birds immediately.

The above is an introduction to guinea fowl breeding techniques. We hope it can help all breeders!
