The Rex rabbit's fur is precious; what are the breeding methods?
The Rex rabbit is pronounced (Tǎtu). It is a rabbit raised for its fur with extremely high economic value. Quite a few people want to raise Rex rabbits to make money, but are troubled by not knowing how. Below, the editor of Tuliu.com brings you the breeding methods for Rex rabbits.
1. Raise them in a quiet environment
Although they live under artificial conditions, their timid, easily startled nature can often be seen. For example, intrusions by animals (such as dogs, cats, rats, birds, etc.) or a flash of lightning passing by can all cause the rabbit herd to panic, and can produce serious consequences. Pregnant does miscarry or give birth prematurely; kindling does stop kindling, have difficult births or stillbirths; lactating does refuse to nurse their kits. Milk yield drops sharply, and they may even bite, trample or eat the kits; young rabbits develop indigestion, diarrhea and bloating, and their growth and development are affected, and other diseases are also easily triggered, hence the saying “one panic, three days of no growth”. Based on this habit of the Rex rabbit, when building the rabbitry we keep it far from sources of infection, normally decline visits, prevent animals from intruding, and do not set off firecrackers during festivals, so as to reduce and avoid all stress factors as much as possible.
2. Breeding environment
When choosing building materials for the rabbit house, they must be sturdy and durable, to prevent the Rex rabbits from gnawing and damaging them, and the structure should have measures to prevent the Rex rabbits from burrowing and escaping. When making kindling boxes, it is best to simulate a burrow environment, and when placing the kindling boxes, they should be put in the quietest place with the least disturbance.
3. Breeding feed
The feeding and management schedule should be arranged reasonably, and providing a sufficient amount of night grass is very important, especially in the hot summer, when the lower nighttime temperatures should be used for feeding to increase feed intake, hence the people's experience that “adding grass at night makes them fatten quickly”.
4. Keep it clean often
Clean water, clean grass, clean feed, clean air, clean body, clean environment, clean cages and houses, clean utensils, and the breeder keeping themselves clean and hygienic, etc., are the basic requirements for disease prevention and the necessary conditions for raising Rex rabbits well. The Rex rabbit is a cleanliness-minded animal, with the habit of “three-point positioning”, that is, eating and drinking, defecating and resting in 3 different places, and these are relatively fixed. Doing a good job of hygiene in the house, especially ventilation and air exchange to keep the air fresh, is the most powerful measure for preventing disease.
5. Temperature and survival rate
The Rex rabbit has dense fur and degenerated sweat glands, and is more tolerant of cold and afraid of heat. The most suitable environmental temperature for rabbits is 15C~25C, and the critical temperatures are 5C and 30C. Within the range above 5C and below 30C, rabbits can maintain a constant body temperature through physical or chemical regulation. But beyond this limit, it is harmful to Rex rabbits, and especially the harmfulness of high temperature far exceeds that of low temperature. Newborn rabbits are afraid of cold and need a higher temperature (the optimal temperature after birth is 30C~32C). As the age of 8 increases, the ability to regulate body temperature gradually increases, and raising the environmental temperature is the key to increasing the survival rate of young rabbits.
Alright, the above are the breeding methods for Rex rabbits brought to you by the editor of Tuliu.com. We hope it can be of some help to everyone. See you next time.
