5 Conditions Required for Sturgeon Farming
China is the country with the widest distribution of sturgeon, the greatest number of species and the richest resources. Adult sturgeon are very large, generally reaching a body weight of 68-250kg, and the area of artificial farming is now becoming wider and wider. Below is an introduction to the 5 farming conditions required for sturgeon!
1. Water temperature requirements
Sturgeon do not have high requirements for water temperature and can adapt fairly quickly to various water temperatures. They can withstand water as low as 0°C, and as long as the maximum does not exceed 35°C, it is fine. However, when farming them artificially, the most suitable water temperature is around 20°C. During the production period and incubation period, the water temperature should be controlled at around 19°C. When the temperature is lower in winter, sturgeon's appetite declines or they even stop feeding, so the water temperature should be controlled at around 15°C to ensure the sturgeon feed normally.
2. Dissolved oxygen in the water
Sturgeon have very high requirements for dissolved oxygen. During farming, if the dissolved oxygen content in the water is unstable, it is not suitable for farming sturgeon. During farming, the dissolved oxygen content in the water should be kept above 5mg. If it falls below this value, the sturgeon's appetite will decline. If it falls below 3mg, the sturgeon stop feeding and show symptoms of oxygen deficiency, causing them to move slowly, become comatose, or even die.
3. Water pH
The pH of the farming water is also very important for the growth of sturgeon. Sturgeon cannot grow in acidic water. We should keep the water pH at around 7.5. Slightly alkaline water is more suitable for the growth of sturgeon. If it is acidic, the carbon dioxide content in the water will greatly increase, causing the dissolved oxygen content to drop sharply, which seriously affects the growth of sturgeon, and it will also increase gases such as ammonia nitrogen, causing stunted development or even death of sturgeon.
4. Light requirements
Sturgeon's need for light varies with changes in their lifestyle. When swimming vertically, sturgeon have a certain fear of light, but as they gradually enter the bottom-dwelling stage, this gradually disappears. Usually, light does not affect the growth and development of sturgeon, but in high-temperature summer conditions, direct sunlight on the water surface will raise the water temperature and affect the growth of sturgeon, so we should reasonably set up shade sheds over the farming pond.
5. Water transparency
During farming, to ensure the healthy growth of sturgeon, during the cultivation process we should ensure the farming pond has a transparency of at least about 50cm, promptly clean up sturgeon feces and leftover bait to avoid reducing water transparency, and control the amount of plankton and other substances to ensure water quality. When sturgeon gradually reach adulthood, the transparency can be lowered to about 30cm, so that the growth of sturgeon can be observed and problems can be dealt with promptly.
The above is Tuliu.com's introduction to the farming conditions for sturgeon. In addition to the above 5 conditions, ammonia nitrogen gas, water flow rate and so on are also things to pay attention to during the farming process, so you must pay attention during farming to avoid unnecessary losses.
