As one of the “four great freshwater famous fish”, mandarin fish is welcomed for its delicious taste and tender flesh. Farming mandarin fish has also become a path to wealth. So how much is mandarin fish per jin? What are the stocking techniques?

1. How much is mandarin fish per jin?

The market price of mandarin fish is not stable; its price changes with different regions and production volumes, but under normal circumstances the market price of mandarin fish is around 30-60 yuan/jin. In addition, market demand and supply also affect the price of mandarin fish. For example, when farming mandarin fish in the north, in most cases natural mandarin fish fry caught in the south or artificially bred mandarin fish fry are purchased, because the north's own fry cannot meet production demand, and there are also a series of problems during the transportation of mandarin fish fry, which affects the number of mandarin fish that grow. Therefore mandarin fish sold in the north are relatively expensive, while the south uses artificial fry breeding technology and has good farming techniques and relatively high output, so under normal circumstances the price of mandarin fish in the south is cheaper than in the north.

2. Stocking techniques for mandarin fish

1. Preparation before stocking

Before stocking fry, check whether the water inlet and outlet are intact to prevent seepage. Next, observe the condition of the water body to be stocked, and in particular understand the fish escape situation in the pond, so as to determine the stocking species and stocking quantity; finally, the water body should also be improved. If the water body is generally turbid, there is a lot of dirt in the water, the water quality is very poor, and bacteria are likely to reproduce, quicklime or alum etc. should be dissolved in water and sprinkled to clarify the water body and purify the water quality. If the water body is relatively lean, a little fertilizer should also be applied to cultivate natural bait in the water.

2. Stocking operations

To reduce mortality during stocking and ensure the stocking effect, fry should be added. The selected fry are required to have intact scales and fins, jump powerfully, swim lively, be plump and strong, and be free of disease and injury. Fry that are thin and weak, slow to respond, have congestion on the body surface, or have mechanical injuries should all be removed. The stocking species can be determined according to the source of fry and farming needs, but the stocking scale should preferably be large, and the stocking density can be kept sparse, so that by the end of the year all adult fish reach commercial specifications, reducing the adverse effects brought by a short growth period and ensuring farming benefits. When stocking, the fry must be disinfected with medicine before being put into the water body, to prevent fish from carrying disease into the pond and causing the spread of fish diseases. Generally, a 2%-3% salt water solution or 1-2mg/L crystallized trichlorfon and other medicinal liquids can be used for soaking for 3-5min.

3. Management after stocking

After fry are stocked, according to the stocking species, quantity, etc., do a good job in feeding, fertilizing, water quality regulation, fish disease prevention and other work. Feed is generally mainly concentrated feed, to speed up fish growth. A daily feeding amount of 5%-8% of the total fish in the pond is relatively suitable, specifically with a slight remainder after feeding as the standard. If there are many fattening-water fish such as silver carp and bighead carp stocked in the pond, more fertilizer can be applied; fertilization should be applied in small amounts many times, and organic fertilizer must be fully fermented before being applied into the water body, at 50-100kg per 667 sq m; for chemical fertilizer, ammonium bicarbonate (5-8kg per 667 sq m) or urea (3-5kg per 667 sq m) can be dissolved in water and splashed over the whole pond to improve water quality. Within 7-10d after stocking, then sprinkle with strong fluorine essence (0.3m/L), bleaching powder (1m/L), etc., to kill bacteria; at the same time, alternately use crystallized trichlorfon (0.4mg/L), copper sulfate (0.5mg/L) and ferrous sulfate (0.2m/L) mixture for sprinkling, to kill parasites and effectively prevent the occurrence of fish diseases.
