Analysis of the Causes of Piglet Diarrhea and Prevention and Treatment Methods
Farmers who raise pigs are all quite worried about the problems of piglets. When the pigs are still in their young stage, breeding requires great care. Today, the editor of Tuliu Net will introduce to you the causes of piglet diarrhea and prevention and treatment.
1. Improper management
Sometimes improper feeding can also easily lead to the problem of piglet diarrhea. For example, if the sow does not produce enough milk in the early stage, and the food provided seriously cannot meet the nutritional needs of the piglets, this situation will occur. Or if the food provided in the early stage contains too much water, the piglets' digestive capacity is insufficient, leading to indigestion, and finally diarrhea will also form. Sometimes rapid temperature changes cause an imbalance in the piglets' body temperature, which can also cause diarrhea. The impact caused by this situation is relatively small, and it can quickly be adjusted back by human intervention. It is enough to adjust according to the corresponding disease situation, and there is no need to be too nervous.
2. Viral diarrhea
This type of diarrhea is mostly caused by infectious viruses. Viruses such as porcine epidemic diarrhea virus and transmissible gastroenteritis virus are among the most common pathogens. After onset, the piglets as a whole become listless, the frequency of excretion rises extremely rapidly, what is excreted is all water, and finally the piglets will also become dehydrated. In addition, this type of disease is highly contagious, so it must be taken extremely seriously.
Prevention and treatment methods: first isolate the affected piglets, then disinfect the pig pens where the disease has occurred. Lime water or povidone-iodine can be used for disinfection. Those in the same pen that have not become ill should receive vaccine injections, and emergency immunization such as the triple vaccine for gastric, epidemic, and rotavirus can be injected, depending on the disease. Affected piglets can be treated with interferon combined with enrofloxacin. Those showing dehydration symptoms need oral rehydration to prevent casualties.
3. Bacterial dysentery diarrhea
Bacterial diarrhea is mostly caused by dysentery-type bacteria, and it mostly occurs in newborn piglets. The symptoms are relatively obvious. The excreted feces have a foul odor, and the feces will contain bloody matter. The color of the pig's rear end and hind legs will change. The piglets look completely listless and are not active in eating. In severe cases, they will slowly bleed at the tail area or die directly.
Prevention and treatment methods: do a good job of temperature control and hygiene disinfection in the early stage. It is best to inject some vaccines in time when they should be given. Clean up the feces in the pig pens in time to remove the source of infection. Isolate the affected pigs first, then use injections and oral medicines together. Gentamicin is recommended for injection, and for oral use, lichunjing can be used.
The above are the three causes of piglet diarrhea and prevention and treatment methods compiled by the editor of Tuliu Net. I hope they can help all farmers!
