How long do pigs need to be raised before they can be sent to market? How can they be sent to market early?
Live pig farming has always been a major farming project in our country, and the number of pigs sent to market and the timing of it are tied to market supply and prices. So, generally, how long do pigs need to be raised before they can be sent to market? How can they be sent to market early? Let the Tuliu Net editor give you an introduction below.
I. How long do pigs need to be raised before they can be sent to market?
At present, the normal farming cycle for live pigs in our country is 150—180 days. Among them, the main commercial pigs——the three-way crossbreeds of Duroc, Landrace and Large White——are sent to market in about 160 days, and pigs of better foreign breeds have even shorter market cycles. Pigs crossbred using local breeds take relatively longer to fatten, with an average production cycle of about 180—200 days.
II. How can pigs be sent to market early?
If you want pigs to be sent to market early, besides choosing high-quality pig breeds, good feeding and management methods are an important factor in getting live pigs to market early. The feeding and management methods for getting pigs to market early are introduced below:
1. Feed pig feed with balanced nutrition
You can choose premix or concentrate, which requires adding a feed grinder and mixer and manpower, and ensures the feed is mixed evenly and the raw materials are of good quality. In addition, choose feed according to the pig's breed and growth needs. Feed formulas are scientifically compounded according to the pig's different breeds, physiological characteristics and growth stages. Pigs have different nutritional needs at different stages, so adjustments must be made in good time. In addition, there are many types of pig feed on the market today, so everyone should choose feed produced by large manufacturers, as this gives better quality assurance.
2. Ensure live pigs drink clean water
In pig farming, water is a nutrient that is often overlooked. No matter which type of automatic drinker the pig farm uses, it must maintain a good water supply, as only then can it promote herd health and raise pig farming profits. When choosing a water source, make sure it is clean with few impurities to avoid clogging the drinker's water pipes. When installing drinkers, fully consider the pigs' situation and make drinking as simple and convenient as possible for them. Pay more attention during routine inspections to the working condition of the drinkers, and repair or replace them promptly when damage or other problems are found, so as not to affect the herd's normal drinking.
In addition, ensure that fattening pigs need 9-12 liters of water per day; growing pigs need 5-7 liters per day; and nursery pigs need 3-5 liters per day.
3. Do a good job of disease prevention and control for live pigs
In the pig house, use a 5% deltamethrin solution or a 2% trichlorfon solution to thoroughly disinfect the pig house, floor, walls, roof, surrounding environment, etc., so as to completely eliminate scattered pests. At the same time, note that manure and excrement should be piled up and subjected to high-temperature fermentation to kill the pests. Killing mites in the environment is also one of the most effective and important measures for preventing and controlling swine mange. In addition:
(1) Deworm piglets and large pigs (30 jin and 100 jin) once each;
(2) Deworm breeding boars four times a year, that is, once every 3 months;
(3) Deworm lactating sows and replacement gilts 30 days before mating, and there should be a 3-week withdrawal period before mating;
(4) Deworm pregnant sows 15 days before farrowing; it is recommended to use deworming drugs with ivermectin and fenbendazole as ingredients, which have a broad-spectrum deworming effect on both internal and external parasites. For the first treatment, use continuously for 7 days, wait 7 days, then use the same method and dosage again for 5-7 days; for injectable deworming drugs, it is recommended to inject once more 7 days after the first treatment to kill newly hatched mites.
(5) Pig houses should pay attention to controlling the temperature and humidity of the pig house. It is best to keep the temperature at 24-26°C, not lower than 22°C, and relative humidity not exceeding 80%. On the premise of ensuring temperature, ventilate to ensure the oxygen content in the pig house and control the concentration of harmful gases such as ammonia and hydrogen sulfide. Pig farms should preferably disinfect once every 7 days with pigs present, vaccinate in good time, and once a sick pig is found, isolate and treat it immediately.
For pig diseases with mild symptoms, corresponding treatment can be given based on experience. For severe cases, isolate first, then ask a professional veterinarian or related personnel to treat them.
