Differences Between Golden Retrievers and Labrador Retrievers and How to Train Them Daily
Golden Retrievers and Labrador Retrievers are quite similar in coat color and appearance, so many people cannot tell them apart, often leading to embarrassing mix-ups. What are the differences between Golden Retrievers and Labrador Retrievers? How do you train them daily?
1. Differences Between Golden Retrievers and Labrador Retrievers
1. Color. Golden Retrievers have only yellow coats, in varying shades, mainly light yellow and dark golden. Besides yellow, Labrador Retrievers also come in white, black, coffee, chocolate and black.
2. Coat. The Golden Retriever's coat is long and thick, usually straight or wavy, and feels relatively soft; the Labrador Retriever's coat is short and dense, with a relatively hard texture that feels a bit prickly to the touch.
3. Head. The Golden Retriever's face and ears are both a little shorter than the Labrador Retriever's, and the Golden Retriever's ears sit slightly higher than its eyes. The Labrador Retriever's face and ears are a little longer, with the ears hanging close to the head and angled slightly backward.
4. Tail. The Golden Retriever's tail has long feathering, and when it is happy its tail wags in a relatively gentle way. The Labrador Retriever's tail is thicker at the base and gradually tapers toward the tip, covered in short hair, and when it is happy its tail wags with considerably more force.
5. Temperament. Golden Retrievers are gentler and more elegant, more independent in character, and friendlier toward people and other animals. Labrador Retrievers are more lively and active, with more abundant energy, easygoing and easy to train, and more likely to form close bonds.
2. How Do You Train Them Daily?
In daily training, both Golden Retrievers and Labrador Retrievers need attentive care and grooming from their owners. There are also some differences in the training and daily care process.
1. Both dogs shed, but the Labrador Retriever's coat is easier to manage, while Golden Retrievers need more attention when it comes to brushing.
2. Labrador Retrievers are more clingy, and their owner's petting makes them more excited, while Golden Retrievers are relatively more independent and prefer to amuse themselves.
3. During training, Labrador Retrievers are gentler and more obedient, while Golden Retrievers are more independent and have relatively lower obedience.
4. Golden Retrievers are more lazy and will usually rest after playing for about half an hour, while Labrador Retrievers are more lively and active and often still will not rest even when tired from playing.
Both of these dog breeds are gentle and close to humans, and both are very intelligent. When choosing a dog, you should consider your own personality and which dog suits you better. If you have a lively personality or have young children at home, the Labrador Retriever will be the better choice.
