What Feed Is Best for Quail? An Introduction to Scientific Feeding Methods
Quail mainly eat protein feed, energy feed, mineral feed, and vitamin feed. Common examples include weed seeds, beans, grains and berries, tender leaves, tender sprouts, shell powder, etc. In summer, they eat large amounts of insects and larvae, as well as small invertebrates.
What Feed Quail Eat
1. Mineral feed
Common mineral feeds include shell powder, gypsum, salt, bone meal, gravel, etc.
2. Vitamin feed
Vitamin feed is meant to provide quail with good nutrition. You can pair it with some fairly nutritious green vegetables, melons, and fruits for feeding, but not too much.
3. Energy feed
Energy feed is the main source for quail growth. Common examples include grains such as corn, broken rice, barley and wheat, sorghum, millet, etc.
4. Protein feed
Supplementing protein feed can balance quail health, and from a long-term perspective it is still very necessary. There are two common types: animal protein feed and plant protein feed. Animal protein feed includes fish meal, bone-and-meat meal, silkworm pupae, small fish and shrimp, etc.; plant protein feed includes soybean cake, peanut cake, rapeseed meal cake, cottonseed cake, etc. Fish meal is the most commonly used animal protein feed, containing 40%-70% protein. High-quality bone-and-meat meal contains more than 40% protein.
Overall, there are quite a lot of feeds quail can eat, so when buying, just purchase according to what is needed.
