Watering should follow the principle of “keeping the potting soil moist but not waterlogged”. Before fertilizing, the fertilizer should first be diluted, and applying decomposed fertilizer liquid once every half month is most suitable. Maintain good ventilation in the environment, and at the same time avoid getting the plant's toxic sap on your skin.

Cultivation Methods and Precautions for the African Milk Barrel

1. Soil

The first step in cultivating the African milk barrel is to prepare the soil properly. Because the temperature difference between the north and the south varies, the choice of soil will also differ. The southern climate is relatively warm, and it is mostly planted in the ground, while in the north it is mainly grown in pots. Whichever planting method is used, the soil must have good air permeability and water permeability, and soft, comfortable sandy loam is best.

2. Light

The African milk barrel likes sunlight. Apart from the intense direct light of the scorching summer heat, it is recommended to give the African milk barrel full sun during the other three seasons. After winter arrives, the intensity of the sunlight weakens, so the plant should be placed facing a sunny spot, or artificial lighting should be used to ensure the normal growth of the African milk barrel.

3. Watering

During the hot summer season, you can water the African milk barrel a bit more to ensure visible moisture in the potting soil. However, you need to prevent excessive watering and poor drainage, which can cause waterlogging and root rot. In spring and autumn, water according to the principle of “water when dry, stop when wet”, and in winter the interval between waterings should be extended.

4. Fertilizer

If fertilizer is applied well, the African milk barrel's nutrition will have sufficient reserve support. In daily care, it is advisable to apply fertilizer once every 15~20 days. When late autumn arrives and winter begins, growers are advised to stop fertilizing immediately to avoid fertilizer damage. No matter which fertilizer is used, it must first be diluted before irrigation.
