The Complete Guide to Earthworm Farming: Practical Methods to Raise Earthworms Well
To farm earthworms, you first need to build a pit pond. It can be newly dug, or converted from a water pit connected to a ditch. After the pit pond is built, introduce the seed worms into the pit. Generally, put 0.25-0.5 kg of seed earthworms per sq m. After the seed worms are placed, cover with an anti-mosquito net and rainproof material, which can both prevent enemies and protect against rain while retaining moisture. After that, feed 2-3 times a month, with each layer 10cm thick.
1. Build the pit pond: It can be newly dug, or converted from a water pit connected to a ditch, with an area of 3-5 sq m and a water depth of 20-25 cm. The bottom of the pit pond should be built with loess or lime-sand-clay mixture that has good water retention, and a water inlet and outlet should be set up. Dig fertile fish pond silt and spread it on the bottom of the pit, 10 cm thick, then add 7.5-10 kg of livestock and poultry manure or farmyard manure per sq m, and then add fermented cake, bran, and grain husks and dregs.
2. Introduce seed worms into the pit: Generally, put 0.25-0.5 kg of seed earthworms per sq m. After the seed worms are placed, first cover the ditch with a layer of plastic anti-mosquito net, then place plastic film, foam boards and other rainproof materials as cover, which can both prevent enemies and protect against rain while retaining moisture.
3. Feed the earthworms: The feed is 100% cow manure, or 50% cow manure, 35% pig manure, 150% straw, or 50% pig manure and 50% straw/weeds. Feed 2-3 times a month, with each layer 10cm thick. The feed is required to be fresh and breathable.
4. Daily management: Keep the temperature at 20-27°C, and keep the relative air humidity at 70%-80%.
