Fly Breeding Technology

1. Putting fly maggot larvae into the pool

Use 100 kg of fresh pig manure and 20 kg of pressed manure; match the pressed manure according to the moisture of the pig manure, stir evenly, rake it out to 1.5-2 sq m, and gently sprinkle the maggot seeds onto the base material (in winter, sprinkle about 3 cm of pressed manure and do a good job of keeping warm.

2. Source of breeder flies

The first batch of sterile flies can be introduced from a demonstration base or bred from wild flies. The method is to raise maggots into pupae or, after sterilizing dug-up pupae, select large, plump ones (not big-headed flies) and put them into a breeding cage to emerge as sterile fly stock.

3. Separation of fly maggots

The separation methods for fly maggots include strong-light irradiation separation, water separation, feeding separation, strong-light screen separation, and manual separation. We generally use manual separation, because fly maggots have negative phototaxis and like to burrow into the substrate. The breeder can use a broom to peel off the surface pig manure layer by layer, and then obtain a large number of maggots at the bottom layer, finally filtering with a ten-mesh filter screen.

4. Breeder fly room

The room requires fresh air, with the temperature maintained at 24-30°C, relative humidity 50%-70%, and light for more than 10 hours per day. Indoors there are fly cages, cage racks, thermometers and hygrometers, as well as heating, exhaust, and escape-prevention equipment.
