Can dog poop be used as fertilizer? Pay attention to these points before use

Yes, it can, but it must be fermented. All manure contains parasites, various worm eggs, filarial worms, germs, etc., so it must be fermented; once it is thoroughly decomposed, it can be used. Note that the smell produced when dog poop ferments is very strong, so be mentally prepared in advance.

It is best to mix it with other leaves, crop straw, sawdust, kitchen scraps and the like for fermentation together.

The process of fermenting and using dog poop fertilizer:

1. Dosage. For dog poop, one bag of Haowangnong organic fertilizer fermentation agent is needed.

2. Dilution: for each kilogram of well-cultured fermentation liquid, add 5-10 kilograms of rice bran (or substitutes such as wheat bran or cornmeal), mix well to dilute, then evenly sprinkle it into the material pile; the effect will be better. Rice bran is not ordinary bran. Fresh rice bran is far superior to old rice bran in both nutrition and aeration.

3. Mix well and aerate. Haowangnong organic fertilizer fermentation microbial agent is an aerobic (oxygen-consuming) microorganism, so oxygen supply measures should be increased, and it is best to mix well, turn frequently and aerate. Otherwise, anaerobic fermentation will occur and produce a foul odor, affecting the effect.

4. Carbon-to-nitrogen ratio. Keep the C/N ratio of the fermentation material at 20-25, and adjust the pH value to 6-8.

5. Moisture. The moisture of fermenting pig manure should be controlled at 60-65%. Moisture judgment: grab a handful of material; it is best if you see a water mark but no dripping, and it falls apart when it hits the ground. Too little water slows fermentation; too much water causes poor aeration and will also lead to “spoilage bacteria” working and producing a foul odor.

6. Temperature. The starting temperature should preferably be above 15°C, and the fermentation temperature rise should preferably be controlled below 70-75°C.

7. Completion. Dog poop can complete fermentation in 20-30 days, while sawdust and wood shavings take slightly longer. In the middle stage, a large amount of white mycelium in the pile indicates normal fermentation. In the later stage, the temperature no longer changes, the powdery material turns dark brown, straw and rice straw break easily with a light pull, and the fermentation product has a slight fragrant or earthy smell, indicating that fermentation is complete. Because the well-fermented bio-organic fertilizer (or nutrient soil for seedlings and flowers) has already been fully fermented and decomposed, it must be applied as a shallow-layer fertilizer, avoiding deep application.
