The breeding site is best sized at 2-5 mu, with a water depth of 1-2 m being optimal. Thoroughly clean and disinfect the breeding site, and about a week before releasing the seedlings, apply fertilizer to cultivate bait. Release the seedlings around late May, and about a week before release, desalination and dechlorination must be carried out. Do a good job of routine management, mainly water quality, feeding, and disease prevention and control management.

1. Site Selection

The breeding site is similar to that for raising other fish and shrimp. It can be built yourself or made use of a rural pond, best sized at 2-5 mu, with a water depth of 1-2 m being optimal. The pond should have some slope, slightly inclined, which helps with drainage. The water quality of the breeding pond must be high. Compared with other fish and shrimp, greasyback shrimp have higher requirements for water quality and are more sensitive to water pollution. Clear water quality is the key point for ensuring their molting and growth.

2. Cleaning and Fertilizing to Cultivate Bait

After preparing the breeding site, it must be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. After draining the pond water, it must be exposed to the sun for 2-3 days before water can be added. For ponds with more silt, about one month of sun exposure is needed. After adding water, strict disinfection treatment must be carried out, and common quicklime or bleaching powder can be used for disinfection. Greasyback shrimp feed on plankton, so about a week before releasing the seedlings, fertilizer must be applied to cultivate bait, the basic biological bait in the shrimp pond, mainly using organic fertilizer and inorganic fertilizer.

3. Releasing the Seedlings

Greasyback shrimp are suitable for growing in water temperatures of 18-30 degrees, so the seedlings are generally released around late May, when the temperature is relatively stable and suitable for release. To ensure the survival rate of the shrimp seedlings, about a week before release, desalination and dechlorination must be carried out. They are kept for a week in water with a salinity specific gravity of 1.003 before they can be moved into the breeding pond. Desalination must be done gradually and step by step, and must never be done on a whim. It can be carried out at the same time as fertilizing to cultivate bait.

4. Breeding Management

After the shrimp seedlings enter the pond, it is routine management, mainly water quality, feeding, and disease prevention and control management. Water quality management is extremely important. About 10 days after the shrimp seedlings are stocked, water should be gradually added, and quicklime or bleaching powder should be spread to improve water quality and disinfect and sterilize. When the water temperature reaches 24-30 degrees, the food intake of greasyback shrimp increases greatly, and this is also the period of their rapid growth, so feeding must be increased to ensure a food source. Disease management should focus on prevention, regularly splashing quicklime for mold at each time period, and calcium can also be supplemented to promote shell molting and growth.
