Select centipedes that are large in body, mild in temperament, fast-growing, highly reproductive, free of disease and injury, and already three to four years old as breeding stock, with a female-to-male ratio of 3:1 being suitable, and stock 20-40 centipedes per sq m. Centipede Farming Techniques

1. Building the pond

Choose a well-ventilated, sunny, shady, damp and quiet spot to build the pond. The farming pond is built of brick, with dimensions of 5 m long, 2 m wide and 0.8 m high. The four inner walls of the pond are faced with cement, and around the mouth of the pond glass is set to form a 15 cm wide eave at right angles to the pond wall, to prevent predators and the escape of centipedes. A layer of about 10 cm thick black soil rich in organic matter that has been exposed to sunlight is spread in the pond. Along the bottom and around the sides of the pond, tiles disinfected with lime are arranged in arcs, with sponges placed underneath on both sides, and some weeds can be planted in the pond to simulate a wild environment.

2. Introducing breeding stock

Select centipedes that are large in body, mild in temperament, fast-growing, highly reproductive, free of disease and injury, and already three to four years old as breeding stock, with a female-to-male ratio of 3:1 being suitable, and stock 20-40 centipedes per sq m.

3. Feed

Centipedes are typical carnivores with a broad and varied diet, and they are especially fond of various insects, such as yellow mealworms, crickets, scarab beetles, termites, cicadas, dragonflies, spiders, flies, bees and their eggs, pupae, larvae, etc. They also eat li worms, earthworms, snails and the meat, internal organs, blood, cartilage, etc. of various livestock, poultry and aquatic animals, as well as fruit peels, potatoes, carrots, tender vegetables, etc.; milk, bread and the like can also serve as food for centipedes.
