Reasons and Solutions for Yellowing Leaves of Hydroponic Monstera

Monstera (Monstera deliciosa), also called ceriman, is a very popular indoor potted foliage plant. It is extremely shade-tolerant and does an excellent job of purifying the air. That is why so many people love it. In fact, this plant can be grown not only in soil but also hydroponically. Recently a friend asked me: why have the leaves of my hydroponic Monstera turned yellow, what is the reason, and what should I do? Today I will explain the reasons and the solutions here.

Reason 1: Lack of light

It is winter now, and many friends have moved their plants indoors to a warm spot. Because this plant does not like being exposed to overly intense sunlight, friends reasonably assume that it does not need sunlight in winter either, but this is exactly what causes the leaves to turn yellow. Summer sunlight needs to be shaded, but winter requires plenty of sunlight.

Reason 2: Lack of nutrients

Many friends who grow plants in water never add nutrient solution, so the plant lacks nutrients over the long term and its leaves naturally turn yellow. You can buy a dedicated nutrient solution and apply it according to the instructions.

Reason 3: Poor ventilation

Although this plant likes to grow in a humid environment, that does not mean it likes a stuffy, hot environment. If the environment stays stuffy and hot for a long time, the leaves easily turn yellow from being stifled. So open the windows from time to time to let in some air, or choose a spot with good air circulation to place it.

Reason 4: Temperature too low

When the winter temperature drops to 6°C, the leaves of this plant easily turn yellow and fall off, and it also cannot stand cold drafts. Especially when it is placed indoors in winter, if you want to open the window for ventilation, keep the plant away from the window.
