Key Points of Earthworm Breeding Technology and a Detailed Explanation of Daily Management Methods
First use bricks or cement to build the breeding pool, then put the earthworms and feed into the breeding pool. The feed can be waste residue or leftover meat from food processing plants or paper mills, and the specific amount to put in is determined according to the variety. Finally, do a good job of feeding management, including controlling temperature and humidity, ventilation and air permeability, grouping and harvesting, etc.
Earthworm rearing methods:
Earthworm rearing is divided into two types: traditional rearing and factory-style rearing. Traditional rearing mainly includes ditch rearing, pit rearing, wild free-range rearing, air-raid shelter rearing, and soil hotbed rearing, etc. Factory-style rearing mainly includes multi-layer hotbed rearing, indoor pool rearing, and plastic greenhouse rearing, etc.
1. Ditch rearing and pit rearing: Put the feed and seed earthworms in outdoor ditches or pits for rearing. The length of the ditch can be flexibly determined, the width is about 0.5-0.7 m, and the depth is 0.3-0.5 m. The pit is square or rectangular, with a depth of 0.3-0.5 m. Ditch rearing is mostly done by digging ditches in green fodder fields for rearing, which can promote the growth and development of the green fodder and also give a bumper harvest of earthworms.
2. Wild free-range rearing: Use marginal land to dig field plots about 1 m wide, place feed, and put in seed earthworms for rearing. It is mostly used in fields, by riversides, on vacant land, in front of and behind houses, in orchards, and in mulberry fields. However, it is not suitable for the rainy season and winter. In summer, measures such as sun protection, cooling, and preventing water accumulation must be taken.
3. Soil hotbed rearing: Use the soil hotbeds where water hyacinth, alligator weed, and small gourd overwinter for rearing.
4. Multi-layer hotbed rearing: Indoors, use angle steel and cement precast slabs or wooden boards to build multi-layer bed frames. In winter, use factory waste gas or coal fire, electric heaters, etc. for heating to ensure the normal life of the earthworms.
Earthworms are burrowing, light-shy animals that like sweetness and dislike bitterness. During the rearing process, attention should be paid to shading light and feeding sweet and sour feed. In addition, the surroundings of the breeding site should be quiet, because a noisy environment is not conducive to their survival.
