The mud snake is what we call the water snake, a non-venomous snake species with rich EPA in its body, and it is also the main snake species from which we extract snake oil; in addition, it also has certain medicinal value. Mud snakes often appear in rice paddies, ditches and places with water, and can also survive on land. So how much is a mud snake per jin? What are the key points of farming techniques?

I. How much is a mud snake per jin?

The mud snake has delicious meat. With the decrease of wild resources, the price of mud snakes in aquatic product markets in various places rises every year. In winter, the price of mud snakes reaches as high as 70 yuan per jin, and in some areas it reaches 80 yuan per jin; in summer the price is somewhat cheaper, basically around 50 yuan per jin. The price of mud snakes is catching up with other snake species.

II. What are the key points of mud snake farming techniques?

1. Water source

The water snake, as the name implies, is a snake with aquatic or semi-aquatic habits. Therefore, arranging the water source is a major key point in farming. During the active season of water snakes, the water source must be kept sufficient and clean. In midsummer, thoroughly clean the pond and remove dirt once every 7-15 days, so as to avoid the water snake helplessly drinking unclean water and triggering enteritis, causing unnecessary trouble.

2. Food source

Besides liking various freshwater miscellaneous fish and loach, water snakes are especially fond of yellow eels and various frogs. They should be fed on time according to the season when they are easy to catch or the special fattening needs of the water snake, and the types of bait should be diversified as much as possible to meet the needs of their body growth. Most water snakes have a strong appetite and feed once every 4-5 days. Generally, a water snake weighing about 100-200 grams can swallow 1-2 small miscellaneous fish each time, and up to 3-4. In addition, water snakes are especially bold; if someone is nearby during the process of swallowing food, it does not affect their eating. After eating, this snake, like other snakes, also has the habit of lying still. At this time, do not disturb it excessively, otherwise it will also spit out the food swallowed into its belly, which will inevitably delay the next feeding time and reduce the due food intake, which is extremely unfavorable to the growth of the water snake. The number of visits to watch should be reduced artificially, or strangers should be refused entry for visits.

3. Disinfection

The rearing density of artificially farmed water snakes should be about 12-15 per sq m. In three-dimensional farming, it can be appropriately larger, but it should not exceed 2 times. Under normal rearing conditions, disinfection should be carried out 2-3 times per month, by spraying or splashing water, and disinfection is best done in the early morning or evening. Because most water snakes like to be active during the day, and after eating their fill they especially like to gather together to bask in the sun; when the outside temperature reaches above 32°C, they especially like to gather in groups and soak in the water, and can sit still in the water for a long time with only the head slightly exposed. Therefore, disinfection should avoid the peak period when water snakes are active outside, so as to spare them unnecessary disturbance and fright.

4. Pest and disease control

To prevent mud snake pests and diseases, you should change the water frequently, frequently clean and sun-dry the platform and the inner wall of the container. There is a saying called preventing trouble before it happens; it can only be avoided as much as possible. Do not feed goldfish; goldfish basically have no meat, and personally I think they are all dyed, which is not good for snakes. There is also the problem of parasites in the snake's body. Here is a brief mention, because if not handled well it will directly cost the snake its life. You can add a little bit of Albendazole to the food, but it is best to let nature take its course, unless you have very good deworming experience.
