How to grow Sansevieria 'Baiyu'? Growing methods and precautions
Sansevieria 'Baiyu' needs plenty of moisture, so water it regularly every day according to temperature changes. Light helps it grow better, but avoid prolonged direct sunlight. Repot it every year and change the soil once every six months, and the plant will grow whiter and whiter the longer you keep it.
Growing methods for Sansevieria 'Baiyu'
1. Choosing a flower pot
You can use clay pots, plastic pots, porcelain pots or ceramic pots for growing. Sansevieria can be planted in clumps in pots with a diameter of 16 to 30 cm. Its root system is not deep, but choosing tall-footed pots helps make the plant's shape look more attractive.
2. Preparing the potting soil
Sansevieria likes loose, moderately fertile, well-drained sandy soil, but it is not strict about soil and only needs good drainage. At home you can use the following formulas: garden soil to leaf mold to sand in a ratio of 5 to 2 to 3; peat soil to leaf mold to sand to perlite in a ratio of 4:2:2:2.
3. Watering
Sansevieria likes soil that is moist but on the dry side, and is fairly drought-tolerant. Spring is the growing season for new leaves, and new shoots grow at the root collar, so it needs slightly more water and the potting soil can be kept moist. After the leaves have grown, it is best to keep the potting soil moist but on the dry side, that is, water after the surface soil has dried out completely.
4. Fertilizing
Sansevieria does not need much fertilizer. In spring, when new leaves sprout at the base, apply decomposed liquid fertilizer diluted 10 times, or 1000-times-diluted Peters General Purpose fertilizer, 1 to 2 times. During the growing season for new leaves, apply decomposed liquid fertilizer diluted 20 times, or thousand-times-diluted Peters General Purpose fertilizer, 2 to 3 times, once every 10 to 15 days. When applying decomposed liquid fertilizer to Sansevieria, use a fine-spouted watering can to pour it slowly around the rim of the pot; do not pour the fertilizer liquid into the leaf cluster, otherwise it will cause the leaf bases to rot.
