You cannot say that African swine fever infects sows first; you can only say that the incidence rate in sows is relatively high. And the reasons come down to three points: first, sows are bred, farrowed and lactated year after year, so their bodies suffer great depletion; second, immune function declines; third, toxins accumulate in large amounts.

Prevention of African swine fever:

1. When symptoms suspected of African swine fever are found, the pig herd should be isolated immediately, the movement of the herd should be restricted, and the local village-level animal epidemic prevention officer or local veterinary institution should be notified immediately. At the same time, disinfection work should be done well, and movement supervision should be coordinated with the relevant departments.

2. Farms should reduce the entry of off-site personnel and vehicles into the pig farm, and thoroughly disinfect personnel and vehicles before they enter.

3. Implement all-in, all-out feeding management for the pig herd, and isolate newly introduced pigs. In addition, farms must also declare quarantine regularly in accordance with regulations.

4. When feeding pigs, do not use swill or food waste from restaurants or canteens, and do not raise them in free-range conditions, so as to avoid contact between domestic pigs and wild boars; even more, do not transport pigs from epidemic areas, so as not to bring in potential viruses.

The disease course of African swine fever is very short, and both the infection rate and the mortality rate are very high. Therefore, farmers must do a good job in prevention and control management to avoid irreparable losses.
