I. Cause

The cause of tadpole gas bubble disease is that the dissolved oxygen in the water reaches a saturated state; these supersaturated gases form bubbles, and during the feeding process the tadpoles continuously swallow the bubbles. Too many bubbles gather in the tadpole's digestive tract, which triggers gas bubble disease. Summer and autumn are the epidemic seasons for this disease.

After tadpole gas bubble disease develops, the affected tadpole's body swells, it swims on its back at the water surface, and its intestines are filled with gas; in severe cases it soon dies. If diagnosed and treated in time it is very easy to cure, but if diagnosis and treatment are delayed it can also cause massive deaths.

III. Prevention and Treatment

Scoop out the affected tadpoles and keep them temporarily in fresh water, do not feed them for two days, and after two days feed them a little cooked fermented cornmeal; after a few days the bubbles can be made to disappear. Normally change the water frequently, keep the water quality fresh, and control the number of aquatic organisms in the pond. For routine feeding, use dry powder feed, moistening it slightly with water before feeding; when feeding plant-based feed, cook it first before feeding.
