More and more friends keep a few beautiful goldfish at home to decorate their houses. But many people cause their goldfish to die because they do not understand how to feed them. Today we will learn about the feeding methods for home-kept goldfish and feed selection.

1. Feeding methods for home-kept goldfish

1. Master the feeding time well. We must ensure that the feeding time is the same each time; it cannot be at fixed times in the morning and evening. Feed 1-2 times a day. In the first half of the year, in spring and summer, you can feed when the sun comes out; in the second half of the year, in autumn and winter, you can feed at around 9 o'clock. Do not scatter food in the evening; at the latest you can feed a small amount of food at 3 p.m.

2. Control the food portion well. At the beginning you can try feeding; if the portion is small, the goldfish may still be searching for food after eating, so next time you can increase the portion. Each feeding should ensure that every fish can get some feed. If the fish compete fiercely for food, you can scoop out the weak small goldfish that cannot get food and feed them separately. The amount fed can be less but not more; goldfish can endure hunger, and too much feed rotting and fermenting will pollute the water quality.

2. Selection of goldfish feed

1. Artificial compound feed. This is the conventional choice for our home-kept goldfish, and it is also relatively easy to buy. However, you should buy it from a regular market to ensure that the nutritional components in the feed are complete. Artificial feed also has four different forms:

(1) Pellet feed: This is the fish feed we commonly use. Because it is small in size and light in particles, it generally floats on the water surface, requiring the goldfish to swim up to eat, so it is more suitable for raising celestial-eye goldfish.

(2) Flake feed: This kind of feed is highly convenient. Generally after entering the water, part of it sinks to the bottom, and part stays on the water surface, ensuring that different kinds of goldfish in multiple positions can all get food.

(3) Powdered feed: Goldfish eat it as the feed sinks after entering the water, but when this kind of feed falls into the gaps at the bottom of the tank, it is not easy for the goldfish to find; when feeding, we can also first expand the powdered particles to prolong their suspension time in the water. This kind of feed easily makes the water cloudy.

(4) Sticking tablet feed: This kind of feed is generally used as a supplementary feed and is suitable for feeding relatively lively and strong goldfish species. The method of use is to stick the feed onto the glass of the fish tank.

2. Animal feed. Keepers with the conditions can occasionally let their goldfish “eat meat.” Common feeds of this type mainly include tubifex worms, fish insects, infusoria, cyclops, etc. This kind of feed is rich in nutrients and is also a favorite of goldfish. However, because it is fed in a home fish tank, it is not recommended to feed it for a long time, otherwise it is easy to bring hidden dangers of pests and diseases to the goldfish.

3. Plant-based feed. In addition to the above two kinds of feed, goldfish also eat some plants, such as duckweed, aquatic plants, yellow-green algae, diatoms, wheat bran, etc.

The feeding methods and feed selection for goldfish are briefly introduced here. Everyone can feed reasonably according to the goldfish species they keep.
