The yield per mu of mandarin fish ranges from 4000-8000 jin, and different farming environments and farming techniques are important reasons for the yield differences. In addition, mandarin fish grow quickly; after 4-5 months of rearing, they can reach a commercial size of about 300 grams.

Points to note in mandarin fish farming:

1. Farming site

The pond bottom is required to be hard, with little silt, close to a water source, convenient for drainage and irrigation, and free of domestic and industrial sewage inflow. Where there is no supporting bait fish pond, the area should not be too large, generally 1-3 mu. Where a bait fish pond is provided, an area of 2-5 mu is suitable. Before stocking, the pond should be cleared and disinfected by conventional methods to kill various disease-causing organisms and pathogens. After filling with water, 1-2 days before the mandarin fish fry and fingerlings are stocked into the pond, apply a mixture of 0.7PPM copper sulfate and ferrous sulfate (5:2) evenly over the whole pond once to kill parasites in the water, so as to increase the survival rate of mandarin fish (especially summer fry).

2. Mandarin fish feed

The sources of feed fish for feeding mandarin fish include artificial rearing and collection of wild fish. The requirements for bait fish are: first, they must be alive; second, they must be suitable in size; third, they must have no hard spines; fourth, they must be supplied in a timely manner. Only by meeting the above requirements as much as possible can good benefits be achieved. Any small fish, shrimp and small loach without hard spines can be used as bait fish for mandarin fish, but considering source, economy and palatability, it is better to choose mud carp, crucian carp, silver carp and bream fry and fingerlings.

3. Farming water quality

For ponds raising mandarin fish, medium fertility is best, with a transparency of about 30cm being suitable, and the water should be clear and oily green. In addition, the amount of water changed each time should not be too much; generally a water level of about 30cm is suitable. If too much water is changed at one time, a sudden change in the pond water environment will cause stress reactions in mandarin fish and lead to disease.

In fact, mandarin fish is what is commonly called guihua fish, also known as jihua fish, huaji fish, etc., and is a famous specialty fish of Guangxi in China. Friends traveling or working in Guangxi should definitely not miss this plump and delicious mandarin fish.
