A Detailed Guide to the Breeding Methods and Key Technical Points for Yuanbao Pigeons
Breeding Yuanbao pigeons requires a pigeon house and an exercise yard. The pigeon house can be made of wooden strips or a plastic fruit basin, with grass spread on the bottom; the exercise yard should be enclosed with iron netting on all sides, with river sand spread on the ground. The breeding temperature and humidity should be suitable, and the feed should be mainly plant seeds. The pigeon house must be kept clean and sanitary, and disinfected regularly. In summer and autumn, water bathing should be done at least twice a week, and once a week in winter.
1. Breeding Site
The breeding site needs to be in a secluded place with no noisy crowds, and must have a pigeon house and an exercise yard. The pigeon house can be made of wooden strips or a plastic fruit basin, with soft dry grass and other materials used as bedding on the bottom. The exercise yard should be enclosed with iron netting on all sides, and river sand should be spread on the ground.
2. Breeding Environment
Temperature and humidity must be suitable. The temperature should be 35°C for 1-7 days of age, 32°C for 8-14 days of age, 29°C for 15-21 days of age, 26°C for 22-28 days of age, and 10-30°C for adult pigeons. The humidity should be 80% for 1-4 days of age, 75% for 5-7 days of age, 70% for 8-15 days of age, 65% for 16-20 days of age, and 50%-75% for adult pigeons. If the humidity is too high, ventilate promptly; if the temperature is too low, sprinkle water on the ground.
3. Feeding
Plant seeds are the main food, and corn, paddy rice, wheat, peas, mung beans, sorghum, etc. can be fed. For artificial rearing, the feed can be formulated into a complete compound feed according to nutritional needs, with “health grit” as an additive, plus some vitamins, made into pellet feed with a diameter of 3-5 mm. Pigeons have a habit of craving salt, so an appropriate amount of salt should be added to the feed. Drinking water must be clean, otherwise they are prone to illness.
4. Cleaning and Disinfection
The pigeon house must be kept clean and sanitary, and nest bowls and bedding contaminated with droppings or damp should be replaced promptly; the pigeon house should be disinfected regularly to prevent disease. Pigeons very much enjoy bathing, so water bathing should be done at least twice a week in summer and autumn, and once a week in winter.
