A detailed guide to leech farming technology, teaching you how to raise leeches well
What is the best way to farm leeches? Nowadays many farmers have started farming leeches, but many farmers also fail to keep them alive. What is going on? Let's take a look.
1. Water quality requirements. Because leeches are not very strict about their living environment and water quality, they can also grow in turbid water. However, in artificial farming the density will be very high, so try to keep the water clean and provide a certain amount of dissolved oxygen for the leeches. Keep the water temperature at 15 to 30°C. If the leech farming temperature is below this range, feeding should be stopped; if it exceeds this range, growth will be affected. Pay attention to properly changing the farming water.
2. Requirements for feed. Generally, artificial leech farming can choose river snails as natural feed, supplemented with earthworms, insects, etc., and various animal blood can also be used. River snails should be put into the farming pond all at once to let them reproduce naturally, so that the leeches can feed freely. However, note that too many river snails should not be put in at one time, otherwise they will compete with the leeches for living space. In order to make the leeches grow faster, feed animal blood once a week and put clotted animal blood into the farming pond, but the residue left after the leeches suck on it should be cleaned up in time so as not to pollute the water quality.
3. Leech reproduction. For artificial rearing, a place for leeches to reproduce must be built, and an appropriate amount of humus soil should be placed in the breeding site to increase the organic matter content of the water. Leech reproduction begins in early May, and mid-May is the peak reproduction period. When they lay eggs, keep the environment quiet and do not walk around on the bank, to prevent vibration from startling the leeches into fleeing and preventing normal reproduction.
