Snakehead fish like to eat feed made from small fish, small shrimp, water fleas, animal offal, chicken intestines, etc., and when hungry they will even eat their own kind. Generally, when artificially farming snakehead fish, you should first feed some natural bait, and when the natural bait is insufficient, then add some earthworms, shrimp meat, and other artificially prepared feed.

Feeding methods for snakehead fish:

1. Types of feed

Frozen and fresh small miscellaneous fish, rotifers, water fleas, etc. can all be used as bait for feeding snakehead fish, but you must ensure that the feed being fed has not spoiled. The feed to be fed needs to be cut into small pieces; if it is frozen, it needs to be thawed first and fed only when its temperature is similar to the water temperature of the pond.

2. Feeding requirements

The daily feed amount should be 3%-10% of the total weight of the fish school. If natural bait is insufficient, the farmer should add artificial feed. Generally, fry around 15 days old will double their food intake; at this time, some large crustaceans and chopped earthworms can be fed in both the morning and evening. After 20 days, the fry can be fed minced low-quality miscellaneous fish meat. The specific feed can be changed according to the situation. Generally, when the fish school no longer comes to the feeding table to eat, they are already full.

3. Separate them in time

If snakehead fish do not have enough bait, they will kill each other. To prevent small fish from being eaten by large fish when feed is insufficient, generally juvenile fish that can reach a body length of 3-4cm at around 20 days old need to be raised separately from large fish, and at the latest they must be separated when the juvenile fish are 5-6cm.

4. Feeding artificial bait

Generally, if the natural bait for snakehead fish is insufficient, artificial compound feed needs to be added. Generally, artificial bait is fed 2 times a day, and the weight of the feed fed is about 5%-7% of the total body weight of the fish school. The formula for the artificial compound feed is: 70% minced miscellaneous fish and shrimp paste, 20% soybean powder, 5% yeast powder, and 5% multivitamin mineral salts, growth promoters, antibiotics, etc.

Feeding artificial compound feed needs to be trained from the fry stage. In the early stage of feeding, you can put earthworms or minced fish and shrimp meat on the feeding table, then hang the feeding table about 20cm above the water surface to lure the fry to eat on their own. After the fry have developed the habit of coming to the feeding table to eat, gradually add other compound feeds. However, during the feeding training period, do not feed live bait to the fry, so as not to disrupt the fry's feeding habits.

The above is the relevant introduction to what feed snakehead fish eat. We hope it is helpful to everyone.
