Silkworm eggs are what we call silkworm eggs; many people who raise silkworms end up with a pile of silkworm eggs in their first year but don't know how to hatch them into young silkworms. Today let's find out how silkworm eggs should be raised.

1. How to Raise Silkworm Eggs

Spread the silkworm eggs evenly in a prepared clean, odorless box, then place it in a room kept at a constant temperature of around 25°C. After about 14 days, the silkworm eggs turn black and the young silkworms will emerge.

2. How to Care for Silkworms After Hatching

Silkworms that have just hatched from the eggs are called ant silkworms, because their whole bodies are black and covered in fine hairs, like ants. However, the fine hairs on their bodies disappear after a few days. About 40 minutes after the ant silkworms hatch, they can be fed, so we need to prepare food in advance. At this time, choose tender leaves of mulberry that are pesticide-free, clean and not wet to feed them.

3. How to Identify Silkworm Eggs

After the silkworm moth lays eggs, we can tell whether they are dead eggs by observation. There are three cases. Those that turn brown or a darker color after two or three days are diapause eggs that will hatch next year; those that do not change color for several days, or turn pink or red and roughly on the 8th day show blue dots, after which ant silkworms hatch, are non-diapause eggs; those that never change color and later shrivel are unfertilized eggs, that is, dead eggs.

4. How to Store Silkworm Eggs

If you do not want the eggs laid by the silkworm moth to hatch into young silkworms but also do not want to throw them away, how should they be stored? We can store them refrigerated. The method for refrigerated storage of diapause eggs is, after 10 days from when the silkworm moth lays the eggs, once you have confirmed that the silkworm eggs have turned a darker color and entered diapause, put the silkworm eggs in a refrigerator at 5°C. Note that the silkworm eggs must be kept dry, with no water droplets; they must also not be placed in the cooling position, to prevent freezing.

Hatching silkworm eggs is relatively simple, and we can do it when it is warm in early spring. When raising silkworms, be sure to supply enough mulberry leaves, so that the silkworms will grow well and quickly.
