Believe it or not, experienced friends all know the principle of “keeping fish starts with keeping water” - after all, the water environment is the most important factor. Tap water is the most convenient water source in the city, so how long should tap water sit before it can be used for fishkeeping?

Freshly drawn water left in the sun for twenty-four hours can be used for fishkeeping. Tap water mainly contains chlorine, which easily harms the fish in the water and causes symptoms of injury and death. Usually, leaving it for about three days can reduce the chlorine content in the water, so when using tap water for fishkeeping, it is better to let it sit for three days. Sunlight can remove chlorine, so it can speed up this process.

When keeping fish, you also need to pay attention to:

1. The fish tank must be sterilized and disinfected before use (scrub it once with high-concentration potassium permanganate water, then soak the fish tank in low-concentration potassium permanganate water for about a day; salt water also works).

2. Choosing fish is also very important. Sometimes the fish you bring home are already sick. (This requires a great deal of experience accumulated over time.)

3. When you bring new fish home, at this point make sure the water temperature in your fish tank has reached the temperature suitable for your small fish to grow (for tropical fish, 26 degrees plus or minus 1 degree is fairly suitable; for fish such as goldfish and koi, generally 24 degrees plus or minus 1 degree is fairly suitable, but this is not an absolute value);

do not open the bag. Put the whole bag into the fish tank and float it for 10 to 20 minutes, then pour the fish into the tank. Do not feed them within three days. After that, feed them twice a day, and each time it is best if the small fish finish the food within five minutes.

4. Water changes: without a filtration and aeration system, change about one-fifth of the water every day; with a filtration and aeration system, change one-third or one-half of the water about every three days. Be careful not to use freshly drawn tap water. After drawing tap water, it is best to let it sit for two or three days before changing the water for the small fish;

because tap water contains a large amount of substances harmful to fish. Another thing is to pay attention to controlling the water temperature when changing water. It is best if the temperature difference between the new water and the water in the original tank is no more than plus or minus 1 degree.

5. Pay attention to the oxygen consumption of the small fish. If there are relatively many fish, then you need to add an oxygen pump for aeration.

6. After the fish get sick, promptly consult a fish store about medication. (Consult several stores: one is to gain experience, and the other is to avoid being cheated.)
